A real interesting question no one has asked yet (??)

Why does Tyrese Gibson's character loose breathe while running up the stairs in that big building...if he's suppose to play a character whos a jarhead (supposedly mentioned by Jack) dont soldiers of the armed forces require to be good at running considering boot camp training (especially marine DI's) ???

reply

Well, maybe the man had asthma and couldn't get up those stairs fast enough.

..........or he wanted his other brothers to do the chasing for him. It all came out in the end. The guy who fell wasn't going anywhere, so why didn't he just stay at the spot where the dude fell?

reply

I wondered the exact same thing. He was a marine (jarhead is slang for marine) and no marine would be winded to that point from four flights of stairs (they ran up another two after Garrett Hedlund screamed out "Six...he stopped at six!!"). Kind of an odd choice for the director to make.

reply

maybe the director wanted an opening for the dog scene. It wouldn`t have been as funny if they both had been attacked by the dogs.

I like the fact that Jack just takes his time going up the stairs and he kinda whistles to himself. It's like he figured his brothers would do all the hard work.

LOOOl i was wondering about it too

Which one mine about Jack taking his time or about why Angel slowed down on the stairs like above me?

I wondered that too. A Marine would be ashamed to get winded so quick! haha.

The Writers and director of this movie do not look that deep into the movie, Angel is an ex-marine and that's all there is too him.

Jack is awesome though--- taking his time going up the stairs....

You'd think so, but just because he was a Marine doesn't mean he was some type of fighting machine/Arnold Schwarzenegger type. He didn't seem like he was still in the service and wasn't really what you'd consider a career serviceman. He was probably a decent solider at best.

yeah hes a EX marine. mean he ain't no more. prolly don't keep up with rnning everyday anymore, you don't do it anymore, you lose it.

reply

In addition to not using it = lose it, I think it was also to show how "bad ass" or determined Bobby was. He ran up those stairs like it was nothing, while the ex-marine became winded and tired.

I'm sure he received a little bit of direction, but in the commentary, John Singleton says in an earlier scene that Tyrese insisted on wearing a shirt instead of going topless because he was out of shape for this film. So maybe Singleton thought it was funny that Tyrese personally would be out of breath in that scene.

I was reading Tyrese book "how to get out of your own way" and in the book he mentioned for Waist Deep he was overweight and couldn't do the run scene where he had to run after the car that had his son. He mentioned he had gained some weight I couldn't tell in that movie he looked alright to me, but I guess in this movie he probably was still overweight. Once again Tyrese didn't look overweight to me in this movie I guess he had all that clothing on to make him look thin.

You have to remember that he was nailing La Vida Loca at every possible chance so that's probably why he was knackered after running up a few flights of stairs :)
