Deaf parents with hearing chidren...

I was really dusgusted as to how the parents treated the eldest. She "has" to become an adult because the others are the only ones that do what she tells them to do.

I feel for the parents being deaf, but I was SOOOOOOOOOo with JoJo about them not using that as an excuse for not parenting... Why did they call her, then?

I was so pissed at the parents when they had a cruise meeting for a deaf cruise. I am with the teenager on hear apprehension--- will they leave them to her care.

I know that the mother said that they had other people in charge of the girls the last time they were out... but why did the teenager not say that... She doesn't seem like the type of person to lie or exagerate to make her story seem worse than it is. The way these parents wanted to give up, they DID seem like the type to just leave without getting proper supervision.

On a good note, IT seems like we have parents here that actually DID what Jo advised them to do... she didn't have to say "what's going on? Did you forget everything we discussed?" The seem to be willing here to get their family under control.

You're laborers, you're supposed to be laboring! That's what you get for not having an education!!

I thought she did seem like she was the type that would exaggerate to make her case. Although I thoroughly understood her position of feeling being put upon with having both parents leave her in charge of the three younger ones. Even with anyone coming by to help, the oldest would still feel a great responsibility.

What if one of her sisters got sick or hurt during that time? Yes that was asking too much. It wasn't like it was for a weekend, it was for a couple of weeks I think and that just wasn't right. The parents were relying way to heavily on the oldest just because she could hear and they couldn't. And of course, that plan was a disaster.

Yes, you're right, it was good to see a family actually willing to do the work to make the change for the better. It's almost laughable when they show the video on some of these parents who just fall back into their old habits, the one about the mother who insisted on sleeping in the same bed with her kids comes to mind.

and also... I know she is 18 now, but the last time they went away she wasn't and if they DID leave the other kids with her, she wasn't 18 and that is construded as child abuse/neglect.

(I am talking about the last time they left... she wasn't 18 when that happened, as she is now...)

I cut the deaf parents a little bit of slack. In addition to dealing with what every other overstressed, clueless parent on Nanny 911 and Supernanny has to deal with, they had major basic communication problems. Since the children couldn't handle the situation, not surprisingly they acted immaturely.

The mother's main mistake was leaning too much on her oldest daughter. I'm sure the oldest daughter didn't get to 7 years old without learning zero sign language. Why not start the "2nd generation" kids learning American Sign Language at an earlier age, too. But then again, the oldest young lady could have said something or gotten help from another adult in the family when she felt overwhelmed. That may have stopped the Junior Mommy business years ago.

I don't have a problem with the parents wanting to go on a deaf cruise. After all, they are a youngish married couple, they should have time with their friends, too.

I think the older daughter exaggerated how much responsibility she had the last time the parents left out of town. Earlier in the show we saw her arrive home and try to take over the younger kids, without anyone asking her. In fact, it messed up the disciplined her mother was trying to do. So the older daughter may be overstepping her role and what she thinks is her responsibility. All with good intentions of course.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
