shareYes, we saw that and was surprised that Nanny left with him still in the house and did not turn him into authorities. I was also surprised that his wife let him stay and did not kick him out. The kids are not safe, esp. the younger ones. Did you also notice that they never showed the little boy, about 8 at all, like he was not part of the family. Very confusing episode I must say.

Read your state laws, guys. It's not that easy to just claim you need to go to jail. I'd much rather the jail be full of the child molesters and rapists and murderers that keep getting out.
I was shocked when the guy slapped the kid in the middle of the night, and I support spankings. But there is a book by a former cop (man, I forgot the name) and he breaks down all the state laws and how you have to have physical evidence of what happened, and I doubt the girl did.
This behavior happens all over, everywhere...don't act so shocked like it's a new thing. I doubt they would've showed the entire episode had he been able to have been hauled away.

Just because it happens too much does not mean it should be tolerated! I have seen plenty of examples of parents catching an assault on their child with the nanny-cam and the people always go to JAIL!! In this case it was the person who should be the most protective, the father! The police should have absolutely been called along with social services! For the mother to keep him around, makes her equally as guilty! Children have no voice, nanny was their voice and failed, but we can stand against child abuse, please along with me call for help when you see, or suspect child abuse!
shareIf you read my post, you'll notice I never say it should be tolerated.
I'm merely saying lots of people crying "call the cops" won't make him go to jail. It's a sad reality and the jails would be full of half your neighborhood.
I think it's tasteless and made me gasp when I saw it, but we can't go yanking every kid who's been hit by a parent or no one would be living at home.
Oh...and easy on those exclamation marks...there are only so many in the world.

I did see the episode. I was appalled. By that woman who said she tolerated it all to keep "her family together," by SuperNanny for not coming down harder on those sorry parents, and appalled isn't a strong enough word for what I thought of that man. His behavior was beyond disgusting. I think he should have been sent away to get counseling so the family could have some healing of their own without him. I don't think he should've been allowed to stay in the home with those innocent little girls.
I doubt he will be able to learn to control his emotions long term - not to the extent needed to be a good father.
I didn't actually see this episode, but I am starting to see clips of it all over both national and local news as they report that a number of viewers called and reported what they saw on this particular show as child abuse to local officials with the state Department of Children & Families. Kudos to those viewers.
However, it's shocking to me that someone at ABC wouldn't have felt compelled to report this horrible man's disgusting behavior to some sort of local authority, even if it was just to "cover their behinds" so they could still air the episode. Hopefully, "SuperNanny" will stand by their plans to keep in touch with the family and will get reports from the abuse program coordinator, to make sure everything stays on track...
Ugh, people who hit their children (and yes, that includes that old lazy ignorant parental magical discipline stand-by spanking) make me sick, and angry. Very angry.
Good! It is all over the news here in Florida and they went to the house and spoke to one of the children and the kid said, no they weren't being abused DUH! They are investigating further and I sure hope this slob goes to jail or at least has to take anger management classes. Jail would be better. Who slaps around a little kid like that? Fat- ignorant- idiot. The 70's called and it wants its look back, Phil..

I am also VERY surprised they did not investigate at the time of taping. It was mentioned that a viewer called it in. Who knows?
That episode really made me mad.
