Enough of the dumb, white, upper middle class!

Start having common people who live in smaller homes, inner city or suburb, featured on this show! The show suggests the wealthier kids are the worst behaved. Rarely has there been a middle or working class family on this show!

Sorry. Their homes aren't big enough to film in.

Their homes aren't big enough to film in???? Wife Swap finds them big enough to film in and both shows have the same producers.

I agree that it isn't the house size that matters here... I have watched other shows like this (wifeswap, trading spouces and Nanny 911) and one of them even did an apartment family in the city.

I think I know the reason why the middle or working class hasn't been on this show... many if not most of them believe that their children are perfect. I teach elementary school in the south Bronx and I have seen middle and lower-middle and working class and even possibly illegal immigrants do NOTHING to start discipling their children when they do something in public that is wrong... and by do nothing to start I mean tell them NO. I have had many students who at the ripe old age of 7 believe that the world revolves around them and that the teacher is there for them and ONLY for them. The other kids don't matter.

I had one child who was beating up everyone in the class (including me)and I couldn't do anything after the administration -- the administration just gave him warnings because he had ADHD and whatnot (from what I saw was Bipolar tendencies. THe other parents came to me to a} make sure I was doing something and if I was ... b} to see what the hell was wrong with that Kid!! I totally felt for these parents and I wished I could tell them that he has XYand Z but By law I couldn't. I told the parents that I couldn't tell them what was going on with that kid. One of these parents showed up at school in the morning and loudly confronted this child in the auditoriup where we meet. I approached her and said that this can't happen here and she said that she knew but she had had enough of her son getting beaten up by him. (meanwhile the bully kid didn't touch her son... her son was just frustrated from the chaos in the room) It wasn't until the kid attacked me with my UFT representitve present (how's THAT for a witness!!)did the administration see that there was something serious going on. they still gave him only 1 day in school detention.

Many of the parents are also very uptight about what they are told to do regarding anyone and their children. I was once told by a parent when I had a conference regarding her son's behavior to "Mind my own *beep* business!!" This was in Catholic school BTW... there are some parents that won't realize the disservice they have done to their children even after they are in jail or have killed someone in cold blood...

You're laborers, you're supposed to be laboring! That's what you get for not having an education!!

It makes sense that self-centered, self absorbed children have self-centered, self absorbed parents.

Any parent that tells a teach to "Mind my own *beep* business!!" when told about a child's disruptive behavior is seriously in denial and obviously borderline retarded. I bet these are the same parents who complained that their children aren't educated correctly and don't have the skills to support themselves. Hmmmm, think there could be a connection?

Like The Wire TV show demonstrated, 5% of the hooligans ruin school for 95% of the students. Making it impossible for the rest to learn because they take up so much time, attention and resources. Too bad every school couldn't segregate those kids.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

I'm singing the Hallelujah Choir to you! As a teacher, it's annoying how a few kids waste so much precious teaching time. They should be segregated and not let back until they can behave. But why would they when they barely get a swat on the hand?

And I'll join you in that "Hallelujah Chorus" AND nail that sopranos' high B flat! :-)
I'm teaching at a two-year college right now and have good students. However, I've had some really horrible students, too (high school students -- stealing, destroying property, obscene gestures in class) about which the principal did absolutely nothing!

God forbid we actually punish kids...it might hurt their fragile egos.
Meanwhile, our education system, because it worries more about image than control, is raising some of the dumbest, laziest, rudest, no consequence-baring miscreants of all time.
