While some of the parents do awful things I hate "supernanny". She's way too judgemental and a lot of her techniques are very questionable. For example a lot of parents think they know when their kids are lying but if you acuuse a child of lying when they're not it's a huge breach of trust. She doesn't know how to listen to kids well and a lot of times she seems overly dominant and dissrespectful to them.

Supergoofy said he had "abusive tendencies" and needed help because his family wasn't safe. What a complete idiot this woman is. This is the exact mentality that has kids today acting like they do. Who the hell is she to tell this guy that. She doesn't know him. By the way, the kid smacked him first, so he showed her hw it felt. I'll bet you that kid won't do that again. People need to be careful before listening to people who try and tell you how to raise your kids that don't know you or your kids.

shareThe kid kept doing it over and over because the mother was working against the father. Mom and Dad use to work as a team. I don't believe in abusing a child but a spanking has never been a bad thing. Hitting children (on the right part of the body of course) makes them fear SOMETHING. As it stands people like you believe that you can simply say "don't do that again or I will put you in the corner" and the kid for some miraculous reason will give a damn. Believe it or not they HAVE to fear something or they will repeat their behaviour. Kids absolutely run adults over today BECAUSE of people like you that believe they shouldn't be touched! Does a mother dog put her puppies who misbehave in time out? Spare the rod, spoil the child.

I thought we were talking about raising children, not dogs. And exactly how does hitting a child make them behave around anyone but the person who hurts them? And how does it teach them anything other than hurting other people is how you make them do what you want? Way to build a criminal.

Why wouldn't it be, parents, teachers or anyone with authority can no longer discipline children. There is a difference between discipline and abuse. You can spank children and it be constructive. I will never understand how people cannot see that children NEED to be disciplined. Raising your voice or putting a child in the corner does not teach the child anything, after all we can't force them to stay in the corner. It simply shows the child that there are no consequences for their actions.

Putting a child in a corner, as you put it, definitely is a consequence of their actions. One that lasts longer and teaches much more than physical pain. Remember, kids don't stay kids. Do you think we should be spanking adults? The whole point of discipline is to teach kids to make good choices. Having them afraid of, and angry at, a single adult or two adults (their parents) does not do that.
The videos of kids running in packs and destroying high end stores by breaking display cases and running out with the merchandise simply does not support your claim. Fewer kids are being arrested, but the crime is rampant. Come to Portland, where parents just say, "Naughty-naughty!" to their children and the police usually don't bother to run them in because there's a no-bail policy. The businesses are leaving downtown because they can't afford the insurance it takes to keep a business open in a progressive city.

shareI also have been watching some of the UK episodes, and I noticed she does talk to the British parents with a lot more tact and diplomacy than she used when talking to US parents. I have no idea why that is. It could be that she thinks that's how Americans communicate with each other, or it could other factors. It could be that she has just mellowed with age. I don't know.
