The Right Wing Lessons of March of the Penguins

I'm only posting this because my school had a showing of the movie which had a panel discussion afterwards about how some right wing groups were putting it forth as an example of intelligent design because it showed penguins as monogamous and heterosexual. Evidently they had their ears off when Morgan Freeman explained the breeding cycle of the penguins as "sort of" monogamous. As for gay penguins, I don't really know enough on that subject to comment, but it sounds like a bit of a stretch.

I'm guessing someone might have brought this up somewhere, so this is meant to be a humorous thread as to what other lessons and examples those zany conservative Christians of FreeRepublic.com might draw from this movie.

1. Penguins can't fly because their left wing is indecisive.

2. If the mother is killed, the chick will not be fed. Clearly, the fault lies not with the penguin society, but in the fact that the mother was too lazy to avoid getting killed. Therefore, the orphaned chick doesn't deserve welfare.

3. Global warming is a good thing, as it will reduce the distance the penguins have to walk from the water.

This ain't easy, but I like what you've got already. I offer only a variation on your #2.

Males are not supposed to rear children. In a traditional household, the female should raise the kids. Note how many times a chick is likely to die in its father's care, absent of the mom.

reply

If the conservative penguins would only legalize abortion, giving the females the right to choose, then they could choose to just stay in the water. Its those nazi-neo-con right wing penguins fault of corse. Oh and everything else is Bush's fault too.

I won't be replying to the topic...for various reasons, but about this.

Note how many times a chick is likely to die in its father's care, absent of the mom.

So many chicks die because of starvation. Like the film said, the father has not been eating for months. Hell, A LOT more chicks would have die if the father had not given them a small store of food they kept for the situation.

The reason chicks have an easier time surviving with the mother is because the mother is the one that returns with food.

Of course there weren't any gay penguins in the movie. Face it, if you were a gay penguin, would you go on that whole journey? No way, you'd be chillin' at home with the other gay penguins. You don't have to march 70 miles to have sex if no baby is going to come of it.

Which is what led to the ancient penguin proverb about there being a fine line between being gay and just plain lazy.

"Are you in the army?"
"No man, I just have short hair."

4)Even penguins find slippery slopes to fall down.

5)Penguin eggs that freeze are technically aborted, so they go to hell, along with their parents.

6)French people have too much time on their hands because they're not going to church.

reply

ingmarsvenson - No, they ALL go to hell, because they aren't baptised and they probably eat meat on a Friday.

But surely the penguins eat fish on a Friday?

reply

NintendoSupporter, you are seriously lacking a sense of humour.

The gay penguins were in New York (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/02/07/MNG3N4RAV41.DTL) and Germany (http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_1275591.html)

It's also reported according to scientific observation that mother penguins who lose their chicks could kidnap other mothers' chicks (as shown in the movie) but after a week or so they usually abandon the kidnapped chicks, leaving them to die in cold temprature or be eaten by predators. Doesn't sound as pro-life as right-wing viewers think they should be.
