'The others won't allow it' scene

I just finished watching MOTP and I have a question: in the scene where one mother tries to steal another's chick after losing her own, it seemed to me that the other females were competing for the youngster and not actually preventing a theft. The others had no chick with them and it seems unlikely that they would leave their chick to prevent an abduction.

What do you all think?

yea i was thinking that too, maybe those who lost their chicks still found it unforgivable to steal others so they all banded together to stop it? im not sure of that scene too

Just for fun, I watched MOTP again and I saw that the other females seemed to fighting the mother for her chick as opposed to preventing the abduction...at least that's how I viewed it....
