In the End, This Becomes More Than Just Another Case for Simo

By the end of the movie, it's not about money or fame anymore for Simo, but reestablishing the bond between him and his son that was provided by George Reeves through his portrayal of Superman on TV (this is hinted at in Simo's home movie, as well as earlier father-son conversations).

Through Reeves' death, Simo tries to teach his son not to get so wrapped up in an illusion so as to be disillusioned by reality. Simo addresses this in two separate conversations with his son, first telling him at home that he can still watch Reeves as Superman on TV and later telling him at school that he has to be tough.

Simo wants to have a legitimate, real connection with his son, not an illusory one like that between Eddie and Toni Mannix, Reeves and Toni, Reeves and Lenore Lemmon, Reeves and his mother, and Reeves and his delusions of grandeur, which ultimately did him in according to Simo's final assessment of the case.

Where Reeves and everybody else fail, Simo is successful in reestablishing his bond with his son, as we see Simo regain his joint guardianship of his son.

The father becomes the son, and the son becomes the father.

As for Simo's final assessment of Reeves' predicament, Simo realizes after all that the most probable scenario is the one that most fans of Reeves and Superman can't accept, going back to the lesson of not getting so wrapped up in the safety of illusion so as not to have to face the harsh truth of reality.

"Okay, first of all, it wasn't 'Eek, a mouse,' it was 'EEK, AN OIL TRUCK!!!'"
