I totally don't get it: Driving around in a car

WHY ON EARTH does Chris Pratt have a DRIVING LICENSE???

He has seizures/epilepsy, poor balance, visual problems, disorientation. Worse, there are things he doesn't remember. What if he doesn't remember what a certain roadsign means? Or what the roadsign he just passed said about speed limitation?

It is not only himself that he endangers while driving, it's other people, too.

THAT spoiled the film for me as I find this higly implausible. Sorry.

There is absolutely no indication that he STILL has seizures, poor balance, or visual problems. Aside from his memory, the only problem we see is the one hand has a loss of function. He should be perfectly capable of driving.

My dad has a very similar injury and he drives. As long as someone with a brain injury can prove they're capable and are ok'd by a doctor they can get a license.

yeah i guess i can see you're point,, but it's just a movie, the guy has to get from point a to point b somehow

One of those things the director probably didn't realise isn't wider known so he didn't bother to explain. Its not really safe but people with those sort of conditions can still have drivers licenses. My ex-girlfriend has seizures sometimes and she is allowed to drive and there isn't even something on her liscence which indicates this.
But the doctor should made this more clear cos it'd be confusing and distracting if you didn't know

When I was younger, I knew a guy who had MS (I think). I could understand his speech, but most couldn't. He had horrible tremors and couldn't walk straight. He had a driver’s license and drove very well. He also drank like a fish and whenever he got pulled over he ALWAYS got off because of his condition.

I also knew a paraplegic who DIDN'T have a license but drove anyway, and drank like two fish. He drove into a house (and got away with it).

Point being, lots of people drive who maybe shouldn't, with or without a drivers license and most don't have a condition like above, but are just bad drivers (i.e. talking on cell phones, doing make-up, eating soup, 5 years old).

A lady with epilepsy had a fit while driving down my street with her small daughter in the passenger seat. She drove across two yards, narrowly missing some people who were standing in one of them, smashed into a house, and flipped over. Fortunately, neither she, her daughter, nor anyone else was seriously injured. But she has a driver's license, and goes on driving. I wish that, if they must be allowed to drive, people like her were required to have some sort of flashing light or something so the rest of us could be alerted when they're in the vicinity. This would undoubtedly offend them or hurt their feelings, but innocent lives would be saved, which is more important. Agree with me or not; I am indifferent to your opinion.

Yeah, this puzzled me, too. I have a friend who had a brain injury, not as severe as the one this Chris Pratt is supposed to have had, and he's not allowed to drive - even though he can function quite normally now and lives independently.

You'd think his car windscreen would be plastered with post-it notes saying things like 'change gear', 'stop at red lights', 'switch off the engine after parking', 'remove some notes if you can't see where you're going', etc...

The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery.
