Annette Badland - acting capability

i've observed something curious about Annette Badland as her acting ability seems dependant on what audience she is performing to.

Case in point her performance in Casanova compared with her performance in Doctor Who, coupled with her performance in The Queen's Nose.

In both the Queen's Nose and Doctor Who she is overblown, hammy and at times patronising.

In Casanova she sounds genuine and believable, her potrayal of the character seems natural despite the character being a larger than life prostitute, figuratively as well as metaphorically.

The underlying factor appears to be that when she is acting in a childrens drama or even a drama that has a percentage of a child audience she feels she has to be overblown and over the top. Why no director has reined her in on this i would never know and if one compares the performances of all considered in the previous episode The Unquiet Dead or even co-stars in The Queens' nose, childrens' drama has little place for antiquated patronising of the core audience.

It is hard to believe that Russel T Davies was responsible for Century Falls and Dark Season when something so infantile as to be totally at odds with the style of previous episodes is presented as his work.

She was good in Boom Town, though, wasn't she? ;)

Different director though, must have told her to buck up her ideas after such an infantile performance in Aliens of London

Russell T. Davies did Century Falls??! Awe! There is one series that screams for a DVD release!
Speaking of Annette Badland though, isn't it funny that so many of the Casanova cast end up in Doctor Who (well ok, three that I can see, but still, it's like Russell posse or something)?
