What do you think the backstory is on Wizard?

I think it's implied that he was an orphan and went through a lot of abuse. Obviously he always had a passion for music. Maybe was even a musical prodigy like August and Arthur?

Yes, the whole plot seemed to be very similar to Oliver Twist. The boy that introduces August to the clan is even called Arthur, after the Artful Dodger.
