The ending

I really enjoyed this film but the reuniting of the family at the end seemed swept over. There was such a great build up and then- all give each other a meaningful look and roll credits. Am i the only one who wanted something a little extra?
I almost couldn't believe it when the credits ended and there was no six months later scene to show that they were all happy and playing music together at least.

Normally Im the one disappointed by movie endings but I love this one. It fits and its beautiful. Cry everytime. Sigh

I think you may have missed the point.

Granted this was a slight bug bear of mine when I first watched this film. Upon watching it for a second time, I realised it had to end there since this was the end of the composition.

"I don't reckon I got no reason to kill nobody."

I really don't think that was "the point" they could at least done a "As one song ends another begins" cheesy line. I didn't feel like the conclusion was satisfactory, or didn't live up to the rest of the film anyway.

I agree...I was hoping for at least a group hug, but we don't even get that!

I know what you mean by open ended movies and we see them all the time in horror movies with the big GOTCHA. But, for this type of movie, yea it would have been nice to see what happened with them, but sometimes is it better for us to decide for ourselves. What I really can't stand is that people really want to pick it apart and analyze it and say it is not reality based and I always ask them why it has to be, it is not the type of movie that is based on the rules and regulations of everyday life or else it would have ruined the movie. I think it just is.
Sometimes people need to believe in things that are not reality, not forever or even a long period of time, but for brief moments. Even the idea of a happy ending that does not follow the rules is better.
I think this was that type of movie. The critics tore it apart and yet it strikes something in the people that see it and get a little caught up in it, hell, that never really hurt any thing as long as they knew the difference between what is real and imaginary. Our society is such that we are always in a state of reality and struggle through our day and it's good to get a break from that every so often, to dream and to not always see the worst in people or life in general.
That is just my take.

I felt the exact same way!
They at least could've given us a hug or something

Totally agree! Loved the movie but the ending almost ruined it for me.

I just felt like i was given a chocolate bar and then just as I'm about to take the last bite its taken away from me.

I mean is a hug or an "I found you" or "you heard me" too much to ask for. And a reaction from the dad, once he finds out the kids he was hanging out with that day, is actually his own kid!

I usually don't like remakes but i hope they remake this movie one day and fix the ending.

I’ve always considered the last 10-15 minutes of August Rush to be perfect. He wrote the music to bring them together, and when the music ended they were together. Perfect timing, perfect ending.
