I know what you mean by open ended movies and we see them all the time in horror movies with the big GOTCHA. But, for this type of movie, yea it would have been nice to see what happened with them, but sometimes is it better for us to decide for ourselves. What I really can't stand is that people really want to pick it apart and analyze it and say it is not reality based and I always ask them why it has to be, it is not the type of movie that is based on the rules and regulations of everyday life or else it would have ruined the movie. I think it just is.
Sometimes people need to believe in things that are not reality, not forever or even a long period of time, but for brief moments. Even the idea of a happy ending that does not follow the rules is better.
I think this was that type of movie. The critics tore it apart and yet it strikes something in the people that see it and get a little caught up in it, hell, that never really hurt any thing as long as they knew the difference between what is real and imaginary. Our society is such that we are always in a state of reality and struggle through our day and it's good to get a break from that every so often, to dream and to not always see the worst in people or life in general.
That is just my take.
