I was intrigued to watch this plot since it was based on a true story but what an injustice to make such a low budget trashy film. Worst ive seen so far. Their script and lines were repeating itself. Always *beep*, suck my dick or *beep* some bitches. It just wasn't belivable to me how one dimensional these characters were. Whatever justin Timberlake was doing in that movie is beyond me and shows whoever was in charge, messed up in casting actors and other component ppl.
I honestly thought the same thing, the writing I thought was atrociously awful. So many F bombs I thought I was watching 8 Mile. Language doesn't bother me at all but when it's done without taste at all and it's so constant to the point where it's every other word, literally, you just get straight sick of it. I watched this b/c the plot line seemed very intriguing being based on a true story and all but it was like every person in the movie was the same. All the girls acted like whores and all the dudes were always high or drunk and saying the same thing over and over *beep* you, *beep* that. The writing ruined this movie from the start, promising plot but the writing was terrible.
Denzel, Leo, Damon, Norton, Gosling, Farrell and Daniel Day = best ever, Kate Beckinsale too =)
Feel better now that you posted that you hate the movie FOUR TIMES? As for the "promising plot", it's a true story. As for the way the kids behaved, it's a true story! These kids were idiots! Which is why this terrible thing happened in the first place.
But gee, my life is complete now that I know that "random IMDb poster # 2324532463454" thinks Alpha Dog is POORLY WRITTEN! and OVER-ACTED! Golly-by-gosh, you have changed my opinion with your four incredibly brilliant critiques! ________________ there will be snark
i just finished re-watching this movie, or i should say i tried to, and while i liked it years ago (it's probably been at least 3-4+ years since i last seen it) i could not even finish watching it now and killed it 40min into it.
so basically...
-used to be a... 6.5-7/10 (a mild thumbs up) -now... 4/10 MAX (failure/boring)
i was a bit surprised to see this movie take as much of a hit as it did for me. but at this point i wonder what i used to see in it.
OP, I think the language was used to convey how childish they all where. Let's not forget, they were all kids really (ignore the fact the director used actors who were, on the whole, older than their rolls). Educating themselves and emulating their lives around the constant gangsta rap videos running in the background. This in turn caused these white middle-class kids to perpetually talk like an 80's ghetto movie while huddled together. It was forced, fake and indicative of how easily influenced they all were. It goes in someway to add to their perception of the initial kidnapping in general.
I found that to be quite clear from the outset, and people do talk this way.
...and don't point your fooking tentacles at me! ~District 9
The problem here is that nor the cast or the script was in any way synced. I dont really know too much about the plot line or the real people behind the crimes. I just tell you how i feel about the film. In my mind, there has too be more depth than what is shown. What went on earlier in their life? Characters seemed like retarded thugs with no better things to do. Happens all the time irl. Why make a movie about it?
I think you're misinterpreting what the director was going for to some degree, though that is of course a perfectly acceptable reason to dislike a film.
These kids didn't have any depth. They grew up middle to middle upper class, some plain rich, and got into drug dealing for the fun of it, to emulate the films they watched and music they listened to. They were dumb, immature, undeveloped people who committed a heinous crime simply because they lacked empathy and the most basic levels of intelligence.
The movie was made because a 15 year old kid died over a few thousand dollars between kids who had known each other their whole lives but who became too caught up in their own hype. It's not exactly a rare occurrence, I'm sure, but still an interesting and tragic story.
I wasn't shocked the kids cursed at each other- but I was shocked how they cursed at their parents.
Had my parents woke me up and said "WHAT THE FVCK! CAN I PUT MY PANTS ON! FVCKING DICK!" My Dad would have shoved me through a wall.
ALL the kids spoke to their parents like this- what's up with that? Is that some Cali thing or is it OK to ask your Mom if she plans on giving your Dad a blow-job for thier anniversary and she laughs?
Even Justin Timerlakes character curses and flips his Dad off- granted his Dad was no model citizen- but even when that's the case, kids dont normally get to scream "fvck you!" at them and it be OK.
~~~ I've never met a racist person, just a scared and uneducated person. ~~~
You're a *beep* cock sucking retard. Who doesn't talk like that. Are they at work? Even if they were *beep* it. Is this a cali thing really I'm from ny and in my mid 30s 3 kids and married and have always talked like this. Every single person I know does. Are you saying once you hit a certain age you can't speak the way you do. Does it make you more grown up? I changed guarantee I make more money than every one on here and I say what I want when I want. I'm a grown up not a little boy I can say what I want. And always have. I don't have to be pc like every wanna be these days thinks is what's cool. So go *beep* yourself fag
It must've been weird growing up without knowing people like this. It doesn't matter if they're rich or poor, if their parents don't care and they don't pay attention in, or go to, school and get a vocabulary, this is what happens. The only words they want to use are offensive, and everything they do is about being enough of an *beep* to get someone's attention. Sadly, I know a lot of people who were raised this way and are passing it on to their own kids. Can't believe a teenager can say *beep* you to their parents and get away with it? That just means you've never seen a parent call their kid a *beep* to his face from the time he was three years old.
Sonny Truelove is right about one thing: it's all about parenting. If the ugliness of it offends you, watch another movie. Don't waste your time complaining about this one simply for showing a reality that you can't understand.
I actually know some of the real people involved with this case and while I didn't hang out with them, when I'd see them at parties and in public, this is EXACTLY how they would act. The movie portrays them pretty damn accurately. Only their names have been changed as has the locale of the film. As for Timberlake's character, he is based on Jesse Rugge. And yes, Jesse Rugge acted like that. I have also known Ryan Hoyt (the character of Elvis Schmidt played by Shawn Hatosy) since elementary school and one of my other friends has communicated with him while he is on Death Row. While the film may seem unbelievable in parts, this is exactly how these kids were acting back in 1999-2000.
I suppose the film just didnt make me feel anything like you would normally in a real murder plot movie. Maybe annoyed. Like someone pointed out..had the actors been younger (or less famous it could have been better)but sometimes certain movies just aren't for you.
OP wanted this movie to be made with middle aged white actors going "Well good morning sir how are you today on this beautiful friday?"
Get a clue buddy. This is how people in that demographic talk. I used to do exhibit the exact same behavior they did, and yes it goes on like that for years. It's cussing, goofing around, dissing each other, etc. non stop.
You're basically mad that the movie was somewhat realistic. Go watch a Coen brothers movie or whatever it is that floats your boat.
I think perhaps the problem is that Cassavettes never once felt like he wasn't glorifying these turds. It was like "Kids" but with more money and more attractive people.
Just because these fools acted this way does not mean they needed to be showcased this way.
