How can Alpha Dog have such a high rating? Seriously, did I watch the same film? Because the film I saw was the most poorly made, MTV bastardized, disastrously MISCAST piece of Hollywood manipulation I've ever seen. I mean did nobody see Bully? Alpha Dog to me after seeing Bully was the same experience as seeing the 2002 crapfest Spun after Requiem for a Dream. Film a hastily thrown together ripoff of a successful indie flick, insert demographic friendly actors, pop stars, etc., and destroy any depth or meaning in exchange for ticket sales. The only positive thing I can say about this film is in the performance of Anton Yelchin.

Have to agree with the original poster.

I just watched this movie on TV (UK) and in my opinion it's pretty dire.

Script was terrible and I laughed out loud at Sharon Stone's fat suit.

It was horrible and very flawed. Scores on IMDB are way off on films. This place used to have some relevancy but that time is long over.

Hehehe funny!!

I watched it after 4 years again and went on IMDB to se score! I was SHOCKED!

And then i saw this title and my eyes lit up and my head vent 'aha, yeah, aha' or so to say it 'that what i said' ... BUT!

But then i opened this post and my shock went up some more! How can this movie have souch HIGH, hello HIGH grade!?!? HIGH? I wanted to post a question with point on same title but very very different comment aka. HOW DA HELL THIS MOVIE HAS A GRADE OF 6.9 WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE I GRADE 7.5!

It is a pure berilliance if you consider it's made from a true story and palyed by second and third plan actors. Helloooooo! An these pips played like 15-year older pros.

I mean, with all the *beep* outhere that is rated over 7.5, with oscars movies rated 8.0 that i slept durring ... WOW! How can this film be rated so high, its crap etc. COME ON!

Sadness, pure sadness ... but then every eye sees different i guess,ha? Well, or just need some glasess :) Crazines ...

I actually thought the movie was pretty good.. Also, not sure why you thought Requiem was such a master piece, that was complete rubbish and Spun does a far better job at it - Spun was just a bit of fun, Requiem is a total wank.

Bully was alright, but nothing fantastic either.. I'm the first person to put down a crappy Hollywood flick - but I think this movie was actually fairly well done. I wouldn't give it an 8+ or anything, but I think the current IMDB rating is just fine.

He thinks it's a master piece b/c it is. Nominated for an Oscar and 413,000 people have voted it to an 8.4 rating (#77 overall) and similar on Rotten Tomatoes. It's largely considered to be THE film to see about drug addiction. It gets shown in high schools for a reason. The music alone in Requiem should've gotten an award, so perfect. All the actors portrayed their characters very well, if you could take the acting out of Requiem and infuse it into Alpha Dog, then Alpha Dog might have been worth watching, but it's not. And you then would need to somehow change the entire script b/c the writing was cringingly bad.

Denzel, Leo, Damon, Norton, Gosling, Farrell and Daniel Day = best ever, Kate Beckinsale too =)

I think a lot of kids and teenagers are rating it. I watched this when it first came out and I was about 15 rating it 8/10 and rewatching it now at 22... well, it wasn't as good as I remembered...

I'm 35, and I give it an 8, although I had trouble deciding between an 8 and a 9.

I think it's a gritty, realistic true crime story that's well-paced and well-acted, similar to Bully (2001).

To all the people asking "did I watch the same movie?" and " how can the rating be 6.9?" More than likely you guys indeed watched the same movie.However this may come as a surprise but everyone will NOT like the same movies. Which is probably why just because other people think Alpha Dog is a horrible movie and deserves an extremely low rating.Doesn't mean other people will share your opinion about this movie.
