Near the end of the film, when Brendan Gleeson notices the police outside the train, what is it he says to himself, before hurling himself towards the kid? I'm trying not to ruin the plot of the film for anyone, so I hope this makes sense!

He recalls the doctor saying "two cot deaths and one dead woman, the son shot the poor head off her". This implies that the crazy boy killed his mother. The policeman that interviewed him on the train recognised him because he had seen him earlier when investigating the death of the boy's mother.
