Conroy...not allowed into the U.S. for Oscar night.

Turns out he overstayed on his visa by two days last time he was in America, so they would'nt let him into the country. He missed the oscars. Proof in the pudding that U.S. immigration official are the biggest A**holes in the world.

They were just doing their jobs, weren't they? I thought that he was great in the film, but the mess he got himself into was completely his own fault.

His only mistake was overstaying on a visa by two days, two years ago. In any other democratic country, common sense would prevail but not in America, where immigration thinks its their perogative to treat you like sh*t. Every second person i speak to who has been to America has a horror story when it comes to passing through their airports. They got a better welcome on Ellis island, 100 years ago. The American ambassador in Ireland has even apologised to Conroy and the makers of the film for what happened, so no....I'm sorry its just another example of the arrogance of a very inhospitable country, not the fault of young Conroy.

reply

Oh shut the hell up. Conroy broke the law. Those people are paid to uphold the law. Nobody made him overstay his visa. It's unfortunate what happened, but it has nothing to do with the "arrogance" of the US that Conroy overstayed his visa. So please, save us your anti-American BS.

cathasaigh, thank you. You took the words right out of my mouth.

“Oh I'm sorry, did I break your concentration?”

As a Canadian who has many gripes about the U.S., I'm taking the side of the U.S. with this one. Visa's are given with a time limit for a reason, it's not hard to contact an embassy or an office to renew or get a new one. Overstaying it, you're just asking for trouble. I find it hard to believe other countries are lenient about overstaying on a Visa, it's these kind of things that prevent wrongdoers from coming into the country and planning something sinister.
