Carell also MISSED [this catch phrase] BY <---------------THAT---------------> MUCH since he never quantified the statement with a hand gesture, thus putting the phrase out of the context that always made it funny in the TV series.
It's been some years since I last saw this movie, but all I remember is that it seemed like the writers were non-fans who were assigned to write a script about an old TV show they'd never seen before, so they watched a few episodes to "get a feeling" for the show, then turned in an Englilsh paper written by Kyle "The Yellow Dart" Smith. In fact, all these crappy remakes being churned out by Hollywood are like book reports written off of the CliffNotes pamphlets instead of the actual books, and the audience is the "English teacher" who's expected to not flunk the "student" for not actually doing the assignment.
