Frank Oz
Why has he stepped down from his muppet personas? (miss piggy, fozzie, etc.)
shareWhy? I don't know why. It sounds stupid.
But I think that Eric guy will do fine. I watched It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas and I can't see any differnce in the voices.
Anyway... he does Grover which sounds a lot like Piggy anyway.
Eric does wonderfully with the characters, but he needs to lower Fozzie's voice a bit; there are times he sounds too much like Piggy.

Frank has been focusing on his directing career for years now. Before Eric took over completely Frank had been looping his character's voices a great deal. Their performance suffered because of it.
If someone isn't into being with the Muppets then they shouldn't be with the Muppets. Eric wants to be with the Muppets, and I'm happy for him. He's an excellent performer.
Yeah, and Frank has been busy doing Yoda for the SW's prequils.
shareI have a read a lot of articles on Frank Oz to try to figure this out. He wants to back down slowly from his Muppet personas so he can have more of a chance to direct movies and also so there can be replacements of his characters while he is still alive. That way he can still give advice and still be involved.
Some good information I read was that he wants to direct the next Muppet film.

Actually, it was the scarecrow who asked. "Oz" appeared as a woman turned chicken to the Tin Thing.

Well if he wants to direct the next one he better at least do his voices, come on he's the remaining original signature of the Muppets with Jim gone. Plus you can totally here all his Mupppet characters rolled into one to become Yoda.
shareFrank Oz is/was seriously the backbone of the Muppets. How does focusing on directing cause him to have to step down as the voices of his Muppets? I'm sorry, but this is the main thing I was disappointed with in this movie. I hope he isn't seriously done with this. Please, Frank! Wake up! The Muppets NEED you!!!
shareAnything you HEAR in Yoda's voice that reminds you of his Muppet characters (barring Miss Piggy and Sam) is just that gravelly tone you HEAR in Grover, Fozzie, Animal, and various others.
Characterization-wise, Yoda, Fozzie, Grover, and especially Animal have been given, by their talented portrayer, differences both broad and subtle, so that while you may hear similarities, at the same time, you'd never mistake one character from the other.

Well, I'm sure it is also hard for Frank Oz to go back and do that. It can't be the same without Jim Henson there. I read in an article from when the time Jim Henson died that Frank Oz said, "I don't know if I can or want to do this without my best friend." Or maybe he realized that Brian Henson killed all the humor in The Muppets. Frank Oz is the only one that can bring back the original Muppets humor. Jim Henson has actully said Frank was the reason The Muppets were funny. Oh come back Frank!!
shareI was hoping so badly that the wizard was going to be Frank Oz himself. At least they chose an actor that vaguely resembles him and gave him the name Francis (even thought that's not actually Frank's name). Ah well. At least we can watch the dvds of the old shows to relive the Muppets glory days.
sharehe should definalty help with the directing and return as the voices in the next one, maybe another adaptation of a classical book, it worked for christmas carol after all, and i also think they should try to get the rights back for the muppets as apart for carol and island they have all sucked
Thunderbirds Aren't Slow
yes! i want the jim henson company 2 get the rights 2 the muppets again! ..its dam well not the same!

Yeah, I was surprised that he didn't do the voices of the characters he usually does. Maybe he was too busy directing or something? Good joke there about Frank Oz in the film though.
