As a long time Muppet fan and a human being, I must say that this show traumatized me. It wasn't funny. I don't even think little kids would find it funny. Disney has ruined the most original and funniest characters of all time. Don't see this, for your own well being, do not see this.
I will agree that this is bad. But I don't think it is Disney's fault personaly. I think that it is the Muppet's fault. I love the muppets more than anyone I have ever known. I have watched them since I was a very young child and still to this day watch their films and shows. But the reason that this film sucked was because the Muppets have lost touch with themselves. The writing in this film was attrocious. Nothing came off as funny. There was no humor that even remotely seemed like the Muppets. Also the direction was horrible. He just didn't know how to add the gags that the Muppets were known for. In other words there was no magic. As for Dorothy: It doesn't matter what color skin Ashanti has (like so many people seem to be hung up) her delivery of every single line was shallow, unfeeling, and unprofessional. She was the wrong person for this role. Maybe they should try an actress with some talent rather than a name without any real acting experience. But mostly this film lacked because the characters themselves are trying way to hard to be new and fresh that they seem to miss what makes them great in the first place. Instead of doing multiple commercials for Pizza Hut and apperences on Hollywood Squares or the Today show they should focus on creating a worthwhile family film that harnesses the energy and carisma of the past. At least try and make something that long time fans won't feel that they have been raped of their heros and friends. But as for blaming Disney, that is just trying to pass the buck off onto something so that the rep of the Muppets stays clean. If you think that it is Disney's fault that the Muppets were so bad I put forth the NBC tv movie A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie. That was not as bad as this, but still was lacking in all things that made this entertainment troupe great. (And it was directed by the same person to the same result, interesting). So as for all that, the Muppets are in a slump that started long ago and they need to inject themselves with some of the old ways just so that they don't fade into tv movie oblivion and out of our hearts forever.
I have not liked a great many Disney programs/movies and I am a die hard Muppet fan - this production was a shock and disappointment. I find that I totally agree with luke_gerdes.
I'm 16 and I ofund it entertaining as well. Ashanti's performance was well done for playing as a cheesy character herself. If you don't think Ashanti can act than watch Coach Carter, maybe your opinion would change.
I agree that Disney demonstrated very bad taste in the creation of this movie. The scene where Gonzo/Tin Thing says "those are my nipples" was too much! Disney/The Muppets seems to have lost the focus of exactly who their audience is. Just because this is 2008 doesn't have to mean even childrens' icons like those are not suitable for young children. If we can't depend on Disney and The Muppets for child appropriate television, who can we depend on?!
