Mean GIrls Reference

Did anyone else catch the Mean Girls reference in the birthday party scene?

Byrne's character asks about some man's hair and as they cut away you hear "Its full of secrets"

reply

Yes!
Polignac(Rose Byrne): "I love your hair! What's going on there?"
Leonard(Maries hairdresser): "Everything!"

Then as the camera clips to Princess de Lamballe eating cake with diamond jewelry in it, you can hear de Polignac laugh and say: "It's fantastic"
Then Leonard responds: "It's full of secrecy/secrets"!

It's so funny! BTW, if your interested I have a Mean Girls/Marie Antoinette trailer!

In Mean Girls, it was said that Gretchen Wiener's hair is so big because it's full of secrets. I'm sure it was added to give another nod to youth culture, like Sofia did by adding Converse sneakers in one scene.

reply

Sophia's "youth culture" not MA's youth culture, the reference you speak of and the soundtrack will become dated over time and even more confusing to viewers.

reply

Yeah, so? Everything becomes dated and confusing to later generations.
The person was confused and I was trying to help clear the confusion about the director's intentions.....like a year ago. It's no secret, she's talked about this stuff in interviews.

reply

Classics don't become dated and confusing: The Wizard of Oz, It's A Wonderful Life, Casa Blanca.

reply

Explain that to the person above me.

reply

Actually, that person 'got it' - it was you who didn't. This movie is not a classic and my children, much less my grandchildren will never understand why these choices were made....

reply

Good for them. I never said this movie was a classic and I'm sure there are many little touches in the movies that you mentioned that people don't "get" now.
