sharethat is a good observation... but take a look at a couple of things... he ate like a pig. seeing him eat is enough to turn my stomach.
also... they are surrounded by either onlooking servants or people visiting the palace. that is freaky. I can't eat anything if I am facing a mirror or a window where I can see my reflection.

She was allowed to eat while he did too but she didn't like to eat while being stared at, it was tradition in Versailles from anyone that was decently dressed, royalty or not, to go to meals and see the kings eat. So she would be eating while people were just staring, she found that uncomfortable.

I assumed it was because the French food was unappetizing to her. I do remember a scene with her brother, he made a face to show disgust of the food. She giggled as if she understood.
