I don't understand. (opinions)
Ok, so let me start off with saying that my thread title is a lie, and I completely DO understand, but I don't want to.
I "don't" understand how ANYBODY could take this movie seriously, and then be dissapointed because of that. Ok, maybe you thought it was going to be something else going into it, I can get behind that. But I don't know how a movie of this kind could possibly be more ridiculous. I feel like people just HAVE to realize it's satire.
I have to admit, straight out, I'm not what people would call a "horror fan". I love movies in general, but I don't get the appeal behind watching super downer movies where bad things just happen to people for pretty much the entire running time of the movie. I don't get that. I really can't imagine a mindset where a person goes into a movie literally hoping that every decent character will be killed, raped, tortured etc. Honestly, don't bash me for that, explain it to me.
I digress though. I think the term "old school horror" is a bit of a misleading term, and maybe that's where most of the hate comes from. The only old style horror movie that this can be compared to is Evil Dead 2, Child's play sequals, and a few others of the same style. I know people are going to piss and moan about the comparison, but seriously, if Evil Dead 2 came out today, the average horror fan would hate it as much as they hate this.
I heard some decent things about this movie, and as a general movie fan with no expectations in particular, loved it. It was literally too ridiculous and too silly to take any of it very seriously, and that's what I loved about it. I wouldn't even classify this movie as a horror movie per-say. Sure, people die in horrible ways, but every one of them is completely implausible. There is a jump scare here and there, but this movie is not very scary at all. As soon as I got that impression (which I did fairly early on), I realized it was absolutely on purpose and happily enjoyed the ride.
Seriously, think about it. The way Victor pops out from some bushes, yells and kind of jumps/wiggles, then runs forward, while the main characters just stand there looking stupid, to the way that Victor is CONSTANTLY being harmed and incompasitated and every single time, instead of finishing the job, they just run away. It's something that happens in SO many serious horror movies that it's generally accepted. Bad guy seems dead, time to relax and walk off. Oh no. He wasn't and now I'm dead. Blah. In this movie, he's obviously not in any way dead, and still they just leave him that way. It points out this stereotype in horror movies and shows it for what it really is.
I really think the majority of people that are called "fan-boys" are more than likely movie lovers in general, more so than the average horror fan.
Now, I realize that this is the IMDB, a large public forum where many "demographics" have access to. I'm probably going to be called gay, perhaps someone will bring up something racist, and maybe we'll digress completely into a religious/political debate. Let's try to keep it civil. What do people think?
