...that thing in your hands is called a shotgun. You point the business end at the bad guy and pull the trigger and then the bad guy goes away.
You do not carry it over to the bad guy and then drop it and try to strangle the bad guy with your bare hands.
Especially when the bad guy has a hatchet in his hand. Even if it wasn't a ghost, you still lose that fight bare-handed.
