How on Earth was this a 'throwback' movie?

I keep seeing comparisons to 80s slashers as if this hearkens back to them but how the cast behaved, how this was shot, the style of the special effects, the music score, the editing; literally nothing here was done in the style of a classic slasher film. You wonder if the people claiming this, including critics who really should know better, have even seen an 80s slasher film before because this feels nothing like them!

I dunno; I consider it more a throwback to the Nth sequel of classic horror films rather than the original films themselves. It's not close to the original FT13, Halloween, Nightmare, etc., but IMO it's got the same level of goofiness that you saw as you reached the sixth and seventh films in those series.

Let a little insanity into your life.

I agree with Sasquatch. It feels alot like one of those endless slasher sequels, where it had become somewhat silly, and was all about the gore and kills, and nothing else. Victor comes across as a second rate Jason. With that said, I like this movie alot, its fun :)

It's a throwback in that, at the time this was made, the Horror films were all PG-13 and/or bloodless, This throws back to the films of the 80s where Gore & T&A filled Slashers were king.

Really, to me, this felt like a Syfy channel movie even on the big screen. I enjoyed it but I think 3 was the best one. That one actually felt like a true 80s film to me.

More like a parody... a rather bad one.
