Question for BIG time Madea fans

OK So I heard good things about "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" on the Tyra Banks show. Bought the movie today and loved it. My question is this:

I know Tyler has released various Madea plays on DVD. And also a sequel to this movie.

Being a guy, some of this movie was a bit too touchy/feely for me to watch over and over again. However, Tyler had me rolling as his character of Madea. I was just curious which out all of the Madea films and plays has the most comedic Madea air time?

Please respond and let me know..Thank you!

Tyler Perry is definitely at the top of his game. I sincerely hope that he gets the recognition he so well deserves. It is hard for me to narrow the choice to one Madea film/play. If I had to pick, I would pick Meet the Browns.
It is funny, funny and more funny. There are some guy momemts in the movie also. Happy watching!

In my opinion the play called "I can do bad all by myself" has the most comedy of Madea in it. Meet the Browns did not have much if any of Madea in it. I can do bad all by myself is my favorite of his plays and had me laughing so hard I was crying. I hope you enjoy this as much as I and all of my friends have.

Madea's Family Reunion....I think that the play was funny as heck and the film version was moving and it had a great message.

I just got into the Tyler Perry Medea phenomenon and I must say that the play was so much better than the movie. First of all, there was much more Medea in the play and so many subplots that were left behind that should not have been. Also the original actors were so good I see no reason to replace them. Plus the singing was phenomenal. One more thing. the message parts in the film I found were laid on too thickly for my tastes.

I see what you're saying...I believe that in the movies Mr. Perry has to tone down some of his and his cohorts' antics in order to suit general audiences. That is often the case with all of his stuff, the plays are usually awesome, but they would need to be a bit mellowed out for the big screen.

Madea is in almost every scene of the play Madeas Class Reunion and it is off the chain! You should check it out.

I just wanted to say here (because I think it's appropriate enough for the thread) that the character of Madea, though over the top in some instances, was hysterical. I loved it when she made that face after the wife (God, I forget her name just now) told her her husband hit her, too.

And I especially loved how she bantered with Joe and pointed the gun at him saying, "I don't hear anythign Joe. You silent now, why you so silent? Can I buy a vowel?"

reply

I think all of them are funny but if I had to put them in order:

1. I can do bad all by myself
2. Madea goes to jail
3. Madea's family reunion
4. Diary of a mad black woman
5. Madea's class reunion

Meet the browns only had one Madea scene and it was by phone, she wasn't in Why did I get married.

Hope this helps.

The best thing to do might be to rent a vid at Blockbuster or something to get a feel for it. That's what I did and now I'm a huge fan.

reply

I have seen most of the plays, but I must say that Madea's Class Reunion was one of the best. Not only is Madea in it, up to her usual tricks, but Tyler Perry also has another role in it that had me absolutely rolling with laughter.

Here's the real question for "BIG time Madea fans".

Is it possible for you to have less taste in movies?

This movie,as well as all the other Tyler Perry films, suck. They are just really bad.

reply

Madea Goes To Jail and Madea's Class Reunion. Except. Madea's Class Reunion, Tyler Perry is playing a guy for a portion of the movie, but the character is hilarious. But it is still great. Obviously, these are the plays. In my opinion, the plays are the best. Except, Diary Of a Mad Black Woman is amazing in the movie form.

I am watching Madea's Class Reunion right now, again, bought it and watched it yesterday.

But I want the ganja, never hurt no one,
Lord, you got to kill off the one youth man.

you bought that piece of crap? Wow - interested in any Florida swampland or the Brooklyn Bridge?

reply

I would have to say "Madea Goes to Jail" or "Madea's Family Reunion (the play)" were my personal laugh out loud favorites.
Seriously, go watch both of them, ESPECIALLY Madea Goes to Jail.

reply

The play for Madea's Family Reunion is SO much better than the movie. I tried watching the movie one time, after seeing the play and was like, "Wow....this...this is lame." I mean, it wasn't horrible, but, it was not nearly as close as the play, and not as funny either.
