Man Dressed as a woman=still funny?
I figured it would've died with Mrs. Doubtfire.
And it was funny in the 70s with monty python.
Even kids in the hall could somewhat pull it off but, i'm getting kind of tired of it.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you.
Weep, and the world laughs AT you.
i think it's funny when done right. If the character herself isn't funny, then the whole "man-dressed-as-woman" schtick is really corny.
Champagne for my real friends, real pain for my sham friends.
Ya well the way it was played was different..........she wasn't a lady at all!!!!!!!!!!!

Men playing older women isn't funny at all. It's really a put down of older women. Think about it. What exactly are the participants in this "tradition" trying to say? That older women are mannish? That they are freakish? That they are bizarre? If not, then what ARE they trying to express?
To me, men impersonating older women reeks of condescension and contempt for women. It is very similar to the custom of white people playing blacks by appearing in blackface. Blackface was a put-down years ago, and men dressing as older women is a put-down now. Enough with these mean-spirited, un-funny, sexist so-called "jokes!" I. for one, will no longer tolerate these hurtful insults to women. They will never again go unchallenged, as long as I have breath to protest with and an opportunity to speak out.
Oh get a life! Your looking way to far into it.

The thing that is so funny is that he's a freakin giant!!!
That cracks me up everytime.
I mean ...he's tall as a man...
So I can't imagine any woman that tall...and that big!
I love watching him...and obviously I am not alone.
Mrs doubtfire was good but the best is still charlie chaplin in the aptly titled "the militant suffragette."

I agree Mary! I think it's funny, and apparently a lot of others do too. Otherwise, it wouldn't be playing so much on television...In fact, I doubt the plays would have been turned into movies in the first place.

It's amusing when it's one right but John Travolta dressed as a woman really didn't work. But I enjoyed Perry as one.
