Ok, Brian did not want his daughter to sing in the choir because he was afraid she would turn out like her mother Deborah, a junkie. How did singing in the choir turn her into a junkie?

What I got from that was singing in the choir inspired Deborah to move onto other music, and in turn, she began hanging out with musicians who did drugs? I could be wrong though and if I am, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to correct me!
shareBasically the theme was to showcase a father worries about how most kids follow into their parents footsteps. Such as most ppl (men and women) who grow up around abusive parents some how end up doing the same thing once they are older.
So Brian's worries were more in line to if Tiff was to follow in the footsteps of what her mother done (i.e. sing or other) then she would perhaps follow within doing drugs.
