Much Better than a 6.8

Whomever the haters are, whatever their problems are with this film, I have to disagree. This is a very compelling, very well directed, and well acted film. It reminds me of "Training Day" a bit, only I actually think this is better!

First off, Chris Evans can do no wrong. Although he has a minor role in this film, he's always solid. And Forest Whitaker, forgeddaboutit - he's ALWAYS excellent, and this film is no exception. Hugh Laurie is fun, if a bit too "House" with his Americana voice. The other actors all turn in really good performances, especially Cedric the Entertainer, as 'Scribble', But for the Keanu Haters, what dolts! Keanu is REALLY GOOD in this - one of his better jobs, for sure. I don't ever think of Neo, Johnny Mnemonic (or Utah), and Ted (as in "Bill & Ted") NEVER comes to mind. He's simply Tom Ludlow, with his twisted psychology from years of "Wander lust," (clever, eh?).

I think KR has become a very durable and likable actor, and his chops get better ALL the time. I think this film really showcases what he's capable of with a good director (although the Wachowski's settled that without debate). He may be a bit emotionally wooden - that's probably because his life has been a dream come true. He made it young, and has continued to chose great projects (most of the time); One of these days', he may be able to cry, but his characters are never much of a crier...

So, if you like crime/action/ suspense/ thrillers, cop films, intrigue, well you will enjoy this film, and maybe come to love it as I have. I even bought the DVD!

It is a good film. I don't know why the studio didn't back it...not at all.

In your opinion maybe. I loved it.

Yes needs to be atleast a 7.

Completely agree. Back when it came out I had almost zero interest in seeing it (despite being a bit of a Keanu fan), but I eventually gave it a chance and I'm sure glad I did. It may not be full of original ideas for a cop thriller, but it's a hard-hitting, finely acted and very well put together film.

You want something corny? You got it!

Me neither. In Norway it was a straight-to-dvd release, so I always thought it was somewhat of a B-movie. Didn't really bother seing it until a few years later, after someone on the Southland board recomended it.

Street Kings ought to be sitting around a 7.5/75% or so.
