It was called The Corruptor.

There are definently similarities, but I would hardly call them the same.

Anyway, they're both awesome, so I'm not complaining.

This movie felt more like a remake of Dark Blue with Kurt Russell with a few Training Day elements thrown in, ironically David Ayer wrote both of those movies as well.

Yeah, I can see slightly of that, too. But I AM talking about the movie made in the late 1990s called The Corruptor, with a young Mark Wahlberg and some Chinese guy.

The chinese guy was Chow Yun Fat. But no... It's not the same movie.

Street Kings is not the most original detective/cop thriller, but neither was The Corruptor. In fact, it's probably less. For instance, that "random" Chinese guy in The Corruptor had been in several popular Asian films that were quite similar to Wahlberg's movie, and yes, they did came out before 1999.

Street Kings is nevertheless pretty good.

actually made me think of Training Day, even though the story is not exactly the same there are many similarities both in the story and in the style, Training Day is much better though.
