The actual study was a lot of rubbish.
I was curious about it and according to papers written by actual psychologists, the study was a lot of nonsense and isn't taken seriously.
There were so many problems with it, like the man running the experiment also playing the role of warden. Generally, it wasn't up to the standards of a proper, serious psychological study.
The experiment wasn't much more than a roleplaying exercise.
