this movie was horrible, if u liked it u're nuts, who agrees?

voice your hate for this movie

reply

Seems pretty quiet in this thread...lol.

reply

haha yeah buddy, i think you are pretty much alone on that one.

reply

Actually, he's not even remotely alone. It's just that most people that hated it don't bother coming to this site to read about it.

Let's see- it's a comedy about how the total corruption/stupidity of American juries allowed a dozen or so murders, rapists and drug dealers to walk away free, despite overwhelming evidence of their guilt. Yeah, now THERE'S a good topic for a movie. Hooray for Vin, making a movie that glorifies criminals, and encourages us to cheer for the fact that a bunch of Mafia goons got to continue their criminal careers. Boy, you people that liked it must be very proud.

I personally liked it .... I just watched it for the first time today.

You don't have to agree with the subject matter to like a film. Sidney Lumet is a respectable director and, as a writer, I was impressed with the screenplay. Granted, most of the courtroom dialogue was taken from actual transcripts from the trial.

I'd hardly call this a comedy, either. Certainly, it has some funny moments, but that's because of the sort of man DiNorscio was. He was also naive and taken advantage of by the people he considered family. The movie isn't about getting a bunch of "goons" off. It's a true story about a man's loyalty to his friends. He may not have been an upstanding citizen, but there is great honor in staying true to the people you love.

Vin Diesel is terribly underrated as an actor. People see him as just an action star and don't realize that the guy actually has talent. His performance in Saving Private Ryan is heartbreaking and Pitch Black is nothing short of genius. Diesel and writer/director David Twohy put out a top notch drama that is often ignored as "just action/sci-fi". The writing is brilliant -- how often do you see a triple character arc? The character of Riddick himself is so multi-dimentional that they knew from the start that it would take more than one movie to scratch the surface. Sadly, the second film fell flat and I pray that the third can redeem the trilogy. But I digress.

The point is that a movie doesn't have to be about noble superheroes or brain surgeons to be good. Monster was about a serial killer prostitute and no one said "Boy, you people that liked it must be very proud." Likewise, Pirates of the Caribbean. Pirates are murdering, rapist thieves, yet no one is ashamed to be a fan of those movies. Casablanca, Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon, West Side Story, Pulp Fiction, A Clockwork Orange, Fatal Attraction, GoodFellas, Silence of the Lambs, The Green Mile...all movies that could be dismissed as "glorifiying" criminals. They're also all Best Picture nominees or winners.

Don't judge the merit of a film based on the occupation of its central characters.

reply

Nicely said ScreenScribe76 ...... tho I'm not a big fan of the Riddick character .... but yes I agree that Vin is sadly underrated and people should realize there was more to this story then "their jobs". I found it a touching story about true friendship and loyalty.

I honestly believe that people from this board are going to find something wrong with every movie that Vin stars in or is just in period!!! ..... and that's just fine ..... that's their opinions and they have just as much right to express them as we do for our love/like over the same thing and I respect that.

reply

i totally agree with ScreenScribe76, also in order to really understand the film you should probably have some backround knowledge about the real story behind the film and the character Diesel plays in order to really appreciate the film. After the Pacifier, Diesel gives the right comic relief to the movie that it's suppose to have. All in all, this film is genius, and really shows that Vin Diesel can play serious but comical roles besides the muscular tough guy!

reply

I totally agree with ScreenScibe76 also and in reply to kylemax...what are you talking about? Its based on true events...it doesn't mean that they are trying to glorify criminals...plus if we went into every movie thinking what you think then films like, the Godfather...Goodfellas...Scarface, wouldn't be the classics they are! Plus, all films are always showing something that is bad...all war films for example?

You are talking nonsense! It's a film based on the true events of the mafia...from the mafia's point of view...I am sure if they made a film from the governments side then it would be completly different!

btw...in answer to the actually point of this...u r wrong..this movie was well gd!

reply

You assume the movie has a moral message to be taken at its plot. The plot of the movie is a mobster who "gags" a jury into a favorable outcome. The movie does NOT celebrate this. In fact, the guy looks pretty F$&*#$&' stupid throughout. But he is likeable, no doubt about that. It's a commentary on a REAL situation. Does the history channel support hitler? C'mon man.

reply

I liked it because it's a role reversal, similar to THANK YOU FOR SMOKING. You cheer on the "bad guy" even though you know you shouldn't be. Nicely done. Vin Diesel's acting was topnotch.

Am not sure what worst. Be 'right' citizen follow law, and be indifferent cracker to other people, care only bout ur self u,u and maybe more few ppl. Or be big heart guy like J. Am not saying thats his totally right. But its natural make mistakes. Problem of many people they only see bad parts of a person. How many of you haters would forgive ur cousin shooting you?
Think about it and try feel it, if u can.

reply

I looked at it much like "Goodfellas." It had that same kind of vibe and comedy undertones in it. Like that movie, this also looks at it from the perspective of the gangsters.

People who are uptight and condemn it because it is "glorifying a criminal element" need to stop watching movies and go outside and get some fresh air maybe?

Oh and Vin Diesel did such a great job that I had no clue it was him until the credits rolled. I spent the entire movie looking at the guy thinking "I know him but who the hell is he?...I know that voice."...lol Just couldn't recognize him with hair i guess.

reply

Agree that the movie isn't the best made movie out there, but it is till better than 60% of the years released movies. Regarding the comment"Despite overwhelming evidence", the evidence was week founded and the Fed's put together a week case with no hard hitting evidence/witneses..."Rapists?"...a very empty assumption....you have obviously seen to many movies...lol....the reality is that the crime and corruption is two-way its just that the government is better at covering it up

reply

That doesn't relate to the quality of the film, it was a genuinely good movie.
Sure, from a moral perspective this is a bad movie, but it's certainly not the first one to glorify mobsters, and I dare you to write something like this about The Godfather.

I think the directing, script and acting was brilliant, it must've been seeing as how it can make you genuinely wish for these "murders, rapists and drug dealers" to walk free at the end.

As an outside observer of the American court system, with juries consisting of regular people with no legal education, I can agree that it is disturbing.
Guilty or not guilty should not be decided by democratic vote, it should be decided by fact.

However, the makers of this movie and the movie itself is not responsible for this and certainly nor is it's viewers. I personally enjoyed the movie because it was entertaining, it got me hooked and reeled me in, and that's what a good movie should do.

reply

If you think this movie glorifies criminals, then it'd be safe to say your post glorifies idiots everywhere

reply

check out the movie "Idiocracy", it glorifies you.

reply

No. . .

It's not about the stupidity of American juries.

It's about the horrible structure of the judicial system.

But the movie was still fantastic.

At least my grandfather's free.

So keep talking.

Vin Diesel is terribly underrated as an actor.

I totally agree, so many people talk sh!t saying he's terrible. My thought on that is that they are just playa hatin. Were all of the movies he was in good? Hell no, but that's no reason to call him terrible. Riddick movies, cartoon, and video game is bad ass. I like Find Me Guilty, I thought it was very good, he did an exceptional job. Saving Private Ryan, although the part was minor, his character had a big impact.

reply

"Actually, he's not even remotely alone. It's just that most people that hated it don't bother coming to this site to read about it. "

yeeeah, because the imdb board usually are not filled to the brim with people voicing their hatred for specific movies, right? xD

reply

A «feel good» comedy about how a mafia family was able to pay their way out of very deserved justice. Whats not to hate? There is noting honorable about a man who stands up for his murdering friends! The difference between this movie and other gangster movies is that most movies dont conceal the kinds of things the mafia really does. In this movie it seems that the fault lies with the racist FBI and prosecutor and that the mafia is just a bunch of misunderstod italian steriotypes.

I liked this movie alot.

In my opinion Mr. Diesel and the all Movie are boring.

Who knew Vin Diesal could act? I love Riddick, one of the coolest characters in movies, but Riddick is a man of few words, mostly one liners and kickin ass. I thought Vin Diesal was great in this and it came as a total shock. Some parts seemed slow or that the movie dragged on abit, but overall I enjoyed it. I always enjoy movies based off true events, but nowadays it seems the only thing thats true are the peoples names. Most of the courtroom scenes were taken from actual testimony, pretty cool. I don't think it glorified the mob either, Vin Diesal's character returned to jail after the case for another 10 years or so. He lost his wife, did'nt see his kids much, that does'nt sound to appealing. Now hopefully we get a Riddick 3!!!

reply

I'm nuts.

I found it entertaining. Just breathe and realize its purpose is to entertain, and its your job to complain about its morality and everything else. I like movies and I enjoyed this. Merry Xmas all.

reply

I think it was better than The Godfather

I would like to say what Jackie Dee" DiNorscio said - "F. U . K . U ". This movie was awesome. Vin Diesel's act from a tough guy to a likeable person with love as his core of existence was remarkable.

Whos wid me?

reply

Aye I'm with ya.
Really good acting there from Vin Diesel.
Underrated indeed. The movie deserved 10times more worldwide gross,
catchy music, nice screenplay, cool characters, perfect story. Loved it.

a very good movie. a surprising vin diesel.

reply

I thought it was good and Vin is a good actor if he people give him more of a chance to prove it.

reply

Look buddy every critic ever known has seen the movie and loved it. Vin Diesel was topnotched in the movie and dispite the fact that he played unexpectedly with hair and had to gain weight in order to please the role convinces me enough that he's an ambitious actor who is not there just to be an action star. If you ask me, it is just a true story on the longest mafia trial in U.S. history. I don't know what you're thinking but look at it this way, if you don't like the movie fine i don't care. so what if the movie goes hurrah for the bad people. It is just a movie. I don't see you complaining about every slasher movie ever made that has the killers be the main characters and sequels are made because of the success of the first movie. Hannibal Lector was a victum but instead became a vindictive sociopathic cannibalistic extremely smart killer. Why not complain about those or how about The Godfather where the story revolves around mafia families or how about the TV series The Shield, why not complain about the story of a crooked cop and why it is still on the air? heres the truth AMerica loves these kind of stories. They crave those kind of stories. They crave for violence, corruption, and mostly for the sex they show. This is America, say what you want to say but that does not mean you can change *beep* about what we watch you stupid good for nothing bad excuse of a realist.
