According to the trivia section, this alleged remake is based on the 1969 book. Yeah...right. Let's see...the only differences are different plot, different location and none of the characters are the same. Other than that...it's gonna be just like the book.

OMG - sucking rocks is being NICE!!! - I just happened to find out about this because I watching another movie and looking up the actor on this website. And saw this title and said the exact same thing "WTF???" - It's bad enough that movies are being remade left and right - but if you're going to call it by the same name, then have the SAME story! - And do we really, really, REALLY need yet another terrorist movie in this day and age. Cheese and crackers! - This is gonna sink like the ship.

I just watched the poseidon trailer - other than the name and a big ship there is nothing similar - Mr.Allen is rolling in his grave indeed. God rest him, and God help us.

It sounds like they're trying to carve a niche for thier film, seeing as how there's a theatrical version on the horizon. The film version will follow the 1972, Irwin Allen release, and the producers of this mini-series know that. I can see the logic behind their decision, even if it's a risque thing to do.
Either way, we'll know soon.
