Filled with thousands of INFIDELS!! you mean.

ROFLMAO totally. I am SO SICK of that damn word. Infidel this 8---> (flip upside down lol)

reply

Exactly...

Soft target, thousands die, causes panic / terror.

Good thing... except for Mrs.Rosen's little speech about "no bad people, just terrible things happeing to people" (or some such utter garbage), the movie didn't try and present the terrorits point of view or make us sympathize with them. No trying to figure out their resons to act, etc etc etc.

There are no "prequels"... there are no "originals"... there is only one Saga...

Besides, just a few weeks ago a ship was attacked off the African coast in an unsucessful attempt. Oh sure, the news media called them "Pirates" rather than using the TERRORIST word in their insane attempt to remain "impartial"...

It was correct to call them Pirates. The media has to report the news objectively and responsibly. Sure calling everyone who picks up a gun "terrorist" will be emotionally satisfying to people like you, it will not solve any problems.

Look at wha arrogance and hubris have brought in Iraq.

No, the difference between Pirates and Terrorists is that Pirates attacked the ship for money.

As to the OP's question, Terrorists have hit ships before...I can't remember the name of the cruise liner, but back in the 1980's, a group of Palentinean Terrorists overtook a Cruise Ship.

reply

The name of the cruise ship was the Achille Lauro. On 10/7/85 four gunmen took control of the ship and demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners. You can read more about that event and other terrorist attacks during that time period at this link: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/target/etc/cron.html

The paragraph about the Achille Lauro is near the bottom of the page.

As an interesting side note about the Achille Lauro cruise liner: apparently the terrorist hijacking was the not the last big news item about her. On November 30, 1994, she caught fire and almost 1,000 passengers had to be evacuated. She sunk two days later while being towed by a salvage ship.

The link to an article about it is here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/november/30/newsid_2525000/2525643.stm

You can click on a link on the right side of the page to access an article to read more about the terrorist attack, as well.

It's isolated, like an airplane is, so it's harder for anyone (eg. the police, military etc.) to get near it...
