shareNah... he was okay. Compared to Robin Shelby (his counterpart in the 1972 version), he was good.
Most annoying goes to Steve Gutenburg's "Richard Clark".
Aside from the bad acting (a Gutenburg trademark I believe), what are we supposed to think of this guy? His marriage is on the rocks, so he goes and gets a massage by the ships resident bimbo / maseuse and winds up having an affair with her (after only how many days at sea?) Then, after his wife throws him out of their cabin (after the affair his little fling is found out for sure) he goes to little miss Magic Fingers and continues to fling her around some more... with no apparent remorse or even sadness of what just happened (not to mention guilt that not only does his wife know about his affairs, but now his kids do too).
Then, as they know that the ship is about to go under when they are in the engine room, he stops and give shis daughter this little (actually rather long) speech on how much he loves her and her brother blah blah blah.
After the rest of the group crosses the cat walk and he goes to help his little bimbo and the catwalk colappeses, he shows no remorse or any emotion after she falls and gets bar-b-qued.
The final insite comes into his character when the survivors are exiting the ship... He had just given his daugther that little speech a few minutes before, but when it came time to getting out of the hull, he jumped while at least his daughter (not sure about his son) was still behind him in the hull instead of making sure that all of his family was safe and off the ship before jumping himself.

There are no "prequels"... there are no "originals"... there is only one Saga...
OK, you made a good case why Guttenburg was even more annoying than his kids.
I didn't understand why that guy who played the vampire had time to hang out with little kids instead of doing his job. Didn't look like Guttenburg slipped him any bills. Maybe is was a Michael Jackson kind of thing.
Watching Steve Guttenberg in this role made me wish they'd vaporized him back in the eighties in _The Day After_.
I've swatted horseflies that were less annoying.
