Question regarding 'inversion'

When a building or ship or whatever is upside down, and imagine a person is standing on the ceiling on one floor, and a ladder is not available. Is there any way to reach the actual stairs to go "upstairs" or "downstairs" from the ceiling? (Since normal stairs never touches the ceiling). So how to reach the other floors? I was trying very hard to imagine the geometry, but cannot figure it out.

I know it's been 5 years, but since no one else replied, I'll give it a try. I think it works like this: each ceiling is also the floor of the next level up, so the stairs are still connected to it, only in this position you walk on the bottom side of the stairs, not the side you normally walk on. I hope it makes sense :)

-------
2 + 2 = 5, for sufficiently large values of 2
