george and his wife grossed me out

i didn't want to watch those people making out or having sex anymore. i hope there isn't anything wrong with me but i was extremely turned off by those two. i also thought it was rude to have loud sex in the family's home their first night there. and to be making out in the car not even excited to see the family while they were practically counting the minutes for them to get there. and him grabbing her while he drove. it all grossed me out. i think george is an alright looking guy, the girl, eh, not so much. she was a little too thin for my liking. for whatever reason, their behavior grossed me out. it didn't turn me on at all. kinda thought johnny was hot though for some reason. but still, not the lady. but i don't think their appearances necessarily had much to do with why i was grossed out. i just was. maybe i was supposed to be, who knows.

amy adams is adorable, by the way, and the only reason i rented this.

haha i meant to stress i'm not usually like that about sexual behavior in movies. i thought maybe it was tsupposed to bother me but i don't see anyone on here mentioning it.

I didnt sense any impropriety, they're just in that touchy feely stage. It's funny they grossed you out though!

I believe it was filmed in a way that it was supposed to be kinda "uncomfortable". Here are two people who obviously don't know each other THAT well yet, and the strongest bond that they have is their sex-life at this point.

reply

Yeah, you wonder if their marriage will make it in the long run.

I admired Madeline though. She was making a sincere attempt to connect with his family, even though it was clear their lives are worlds apart.

I AGREE with you, OP, their intimacies did not feel romantic or lovely, they seemed like strangers effing around with no respect for anyone but themselves. I do feel that this worked for the benefit of the movie though. The family felt that George had become a practical stranger to them and his wife was an extension of that. In all reality, she did not know George either! George was split into two halves and not until he came home with his new new wife was everyone, including George, able to put all of his pieces together and realize who he was for ALL that he was.

And their loud sex offended me too.

the fact that she would go in and have loud sex just after the brother hit on her shows she wasn't raised the way us southern folk were. and her going down on him just after the baby died- woman PLEASE!

BUT-- I think that was the point. their relationship was sex only; they didn't know each other. while the other 2 couples were at a sexual stand still and hadn't realized it, until all the sex was thrown in their midst. the men in the other relationships attempted to patch up their sexual indifferences. the father with the little hand made gift. the brother by offering to try again for a baby.

Getting married after only one week of dating is foolish. There's so much more besides personality and the physical attributes, that makes up a person. It's positively impossible to learn about all that in one week.

How do we know how long they dated? Did it say that?

I agree that the sex between them was to show their self centered ness and how they literally cannot relate to how anyone else in the house is feeling.
it was supposed to show that sex is their link, not love.

Probably the marriage will go on a little longer and then when the sex becomes routine, he will realize she will always be older than he is, look older and perhaps become a bore to him.

George seemed all frozen inside, and yet Madeline was the one being sweet to Ashely, the dad, and to johnny. George was basically absent until the last scene in the hospital really shook him up.

We are told that they married a week after they met.For easy markup in Firefox & Opera, see http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/42255

Wow! I totally missed that. I just thought they must have dated a while and got married and perhaps he was not close to his family so he never really introduced her to them.

I guess the sex was that good. But I always did feel that their relationship seemed very much on the surface. Like she had no idea who he was. Now I know.

I'm a rare combination of French film buff and thug.

For the record:

Ashley: I want to hear all about how you and George met and everything. Was it love at first sight? Madeleine: Yeah. Ashley: Really? Madeleine: Yeah. I saw him at the gallery and a week later we were married.

Peg keeps saying that, but she does not want to believe that anyone could understand her son the way that she does. I don't think she understands him at all, and I think it is going to be a long time before she sees him again.George grew up hiding a lot which is probably the only way to deal with his mother without constant conflict. And he still hides a lot. It is a habit that firmly established in childhood is difficult to change. In so far as it is true that Madeleine does not know much about what George is really like, I believe it has more to do with that than how long they have known each other. For easy markup in Firefox & Opera, see http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/42255

It is a MOVIE. You are supposed to find this behavior foolish. DUH.

Their sexual conduct was meant to be compared to that of the other two couples in the house. Madelaine and.George had great passion, as do most newlyweds. Ashley and her husband had no passion nor care for one another, or he had no care for anyone else. Something was wrong with that boy.

Why did Ashley have no prenatal care? What's up with that?

Bored now.
