Something's changing

We often hear about the UK and USA enjoying training together militarily which makes me wonder if for instance the USMC is becoming more of a commando style force like the Royal Marines. Just imagine American Marines undergoing 32 weeks or longer for recruit training and then 64 weeks or more depending on the special operations unit with the idea being earning a coveted beret.
Do you think the more the Americans and their British counterparts train together you'll see this type of thing happen more?

Why? As a former Marine, (in order to qualify my comments) and a desert shield/storm vet, the Marines are an expeditionary force and special ops capeable. Meaning,at least back then, marine special ops were force recon and scout snipers. These were all for the purpose of forwarding the Marine corps primary mission. Of establishing a toe hold anywhere and holding it for up to 40 days until additional assets can arrive. The Marines only rely on the navy, specifically amphibious warships and Marine fighter attack aircraft imbedded with naval aviators on aircraft carriers. The Marine are a self contained invasion force. Now with regard to commandos, the Marines have had FORCON (force recon) longer than Navy Seals. (And if argue vigorously that recon training, even just to get to that point, is much more challenging than Seal training, known as BUDS) and of course scout snipers to top it off. In addition to thirteen weeks of bootcamp (in my day) there are months of additional training for the special ops side of the house. Now the corps has developed MARSOC. Marine special ops command to add to SOCOM. (Confusing right?) and named hem the Raiders in honor of WWII USMC commandos called Raiders. Socomm was only active for like two years when I went to boot camp so it didn't get the Hollywood treatment it has now. Now everybody knows Seal team 6 and Delta force and special forces and Jesus the list goes on. No I don't see the Corps needing to replicate Britains Royal Marines as the USMC as a whole has a different basic mission. Anyway the USMCs special ops community does just fine and is really not well known, which is the way they like it. (sorry bout' typos, I'm using and I phone and to lazy to go back and correct)

it was pretty unbelievable what the first generation force recon platoons were doing in vietnam. running deep patrols, setting ambushes, teams of 4-8 operators snooping on entire NVA battalions, completely on their own. mortality rate was high.

i went in right after the war, missed all that 'adventure'. my hat is off to each & every one of them.

a force recon company still exists within MARSOC, btw.
