Adam's Facial Expression: Your Thoughts?

While i have just done a looong post above about the Job references in the story, I am questioning another issue here. Adam has the same blank(?) facial expression throughout most of the film. What did you think was his motivation for that face? Was it just to show lack of emotion , or something else?
Thanks much.

I simply just assumed that it was part of his skin(bone)head behaviour to show a lack of emotion.

Ofcourse, Neo-Nazi messed up, indoctrinated mind. Until, the car scene, where he sings this Beegees song, which could have been let out imo.

reply

He has the permanent scowl of someone shut off to every emotion except hostility. That's why (combined with seeing his hair grown out) we don't recognize him at first in the final scenes--we've never seen him smile before.

ha! the beegees' song- over the top surely, but a kick nonetheless!i just love this screenwriters' sense of humor; have seen everything of his available in the u.s.- that i could find.

I think he was perplexed, confused and shocked. I really liked his face. It made me laugh every time again.
When you are a person like him who never knew real love and forgiveness and who is a neonazi, you would be really confused by the situataion and annoyed like he was.

reply

I think it was usually more of a WTF expression.

On the contrary, I did not view his expressions as "lack of emotion" at all. He expressed quite a bit through his scowls and "huh?" faces. In the beginning, I think he was mostly confused by the obvious sugar-coating and lack of connection with reality happening around him. Later, he was clearly angry and annoyed by it and then he acquiesed and assimilated to the environment.

All in all, his facial expressions were hilarious and really made the movie for me.

I didn't think Adam's facial expression was blank. It was simply fitting the role. Just check his face after the cat got shot. He looks like big question mark right there. Ulrich Thomsen was brilliant in his role, just as rest of the cast.
