Just finished binge watching all 5 films
To watch 5 movies consistently over 2h20 mins of Michael Bay Transformers, I thought I was probably mad, but I gave it a shot anyway.
However, I have to say a few things
The good:
Michael Bay is a great film maker. Big scale movies like this are made for him, and the Transformers movies fit him quite well with regards to using the military, as he does well with military movies.
His camera work is outstanding. I was blown away by some of the shots.
Also, his movies look beautiful. Visually incredible, and with lots of colour. Unlike that Snyder fellow who helmed that cut of Justice League.
The alien space ships and they way look on the inside and outside are amazing. They look awesome, as well as the way they move.
Bay does capture some human moments well.
The bad:
The robots look hideous. All of them.
Bay giving the robots human traits, like facial traits was a big mistake. Hound smoking ? What was Bay smoking ?
The smaller robots who sound like they are on crack, are just dumb. Could've ditched them all together.
Some of the comedic humour with the robots are awful. A lot of the humour was just bad.
The transformations of the robots are overly complicated and too long. Seeing all the gears while transforming was completely unnecessary.
The fights are messy and confusing. At times cannot see what is really going on.
Sexual references in each movie, totally unnecessary.
These are not Transformers movies. These are robot wars movies with transformers elements. Bay slaughtered Transformers lore and put his own spin on it. I'm a life long Transformers fan, and it's really sad to see what these movies ended up being.
Having said that, there is quite a bit to enjoy from these movies.
This is not the first time I've watched these films. Only first time I binged all of them.
Anyway, my thoughts.
