its been 10 years since the live-action Transformers movie based on the toy series from Hasbro came out and it was a money-making masterpiece. it followed two warring mechanical lifeforms from the planet Cybertron came to earth to find the all-spark. the film received mostly acclaimed by critics and fans for outstanding visual effects, action sequences and music but harsh criticism on the writing, cheesy acting and the lengths. that led to three sequels, two that was Revenge of the Fallen and four that was Age of Extinction were panned by critics and fans for its darker tone, too many plot holes, racisim involving the Autobot twins and overly writing but Dark of the Moon, the third installment did more favorable than Revenge of the Fallen. No Sacrifice, No Victory. for freedom is the right of all sentient beings.

First one was not a stellar movie, but it was a solid and relatively fresh movie at the time. Most of the sequels that came after... sheesh. (More than one of them provided good entertainment value though, plus Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime has always been cool to hear.)

But in any case, I’m happy about the newest film in the franchise! It’s a huge step in the right direction. A real crowd-pleaser that happens to be well-made and actually has depth.

OK, Bumblebee was decent enough, but was really just an E.T. ripoff/Transformers PC edition. I bet the majority of reviewers who raved about it and gave their highest scores were just loudmouth Bay-directed Transformers haters, only doing so out of spite.

The first Transformers movie was more successful in many ways; While it may have been divided with critics and some long time TF fans, it was a huge hit with general moviegoers - It made over $709 million worldwide (this is in 2007 dollars), brought the franchise to new levels of awareness and popularity, was one of the most talked about major releases of 2007 and is still thoroughly enjoyed to this day (hence the retained 7.0 rating on IMDb). Bumblebee has almost been completely forgotten about...

The 2nd one was unarguably the low point but I liked the others, 4 and 5 especially. They were clearly intending to build to something involving Unicron and the Quintessons; I guess that arc wasn't holding enough interest. It's too bad; I'd have liked to see it wrapped up.

Haven't seen the new reboot yet. It looks like a different kind of crowd-pleaser (more Iron Giant than Transformers) but nice to see it was well received.

Regarding Bumblebee, I found the film itself to be somewhat dull and predictable--it's more or less E.T. with a robot--bit Hailee Steinfeld is excellent and highly watchable.

There's nothing "wrong" with the rest of the film, per se, but she really makes the film much more interesting than it would be had a less charismatic actress been cast.

I think people do often forget that this one was actually well received at the time. It's still my favorite in the live-action series;Bumblebee a close second.
