Vendata Theory

Now this might be an out there theory, but I saw someone say that Vendata/Venturion might be the Monarch's dad?

He's a cyborg so part of him used to be human. And when he was glitching out at the end, he mentioned how he was looking for his wife and how "the plane is going down."

Charge 'em for the lice/Extra for the mice/2% for looking in the mirror twice.

This might also be a little insight into why it(he) was unstable and tried to strangle Rusty.

And the name going from Venturion to Vendata (Vendatta). Since we know that the Family Butterfly was chummy with the Venture gang from that photo the Monarch found, it is feasible to think that Rusty somehow caused an accident that both "orphaned" the Monarch and forced Rusty Sr. to create a cyborg out of Daddy Monarch's recovered parts. It would explain why the Monarch was assigned by the Guild to arch Rusty: Vendata has been pulling the strings that drive the Monarch's unbeknownst revenge. The Monarch himself has always stated he has no idea why he despises the Ventures so much - he just does.

OK, somebody else recently said the Monarch doesn't know why he hates Dr. Venture, and I asked when did the Monarch say that, but I didn't get an answer.

So I'll ask again. [Question implied]

reply

Yeah, the Joke is that we never get an answer when someone asks.

"When the chips are down... these Civilized people... will Eat each Other"

reply

Just like I'M not getting an answer when I ask, "When did the Monarch say he doesn't know why?"!

reply

Well, he wasn't even legally arching Rusty for the longest time. The Ventures would just blow him off when he would come around trying to menace them. Rusty filed several complaints about "some nutjob in a butterfly costume prancing around on his lawn". Even the college "origin" story really doesn't explain why the Monarch despises him so much. He just decided to blow Rusty up in a lab accident, but instead took off Underbheit's jaw.

At one point, Rusty has even asked the Monarch to his face "what did I ever do to you?" and the Monarch has replied "I don't know I just hate you." In fact, Dr Girlfriend used to roll her eyes when the Monarch would get crazed over the Ventures. Their marriage was, to him, the ultimate expression of her love because it allowed him to legally arch Rusty as part of a Guild-sanctioned duo.

The topic of why the Monarch is maniacally obsessed over Rusty with such seething hatred has been debated on the Adult Swim and Penny Arcade forums for years. And the answer is nobody, apparently not even the Monarch, knows.

reply

Otkon, with respect to the reason for The Monarch's hatred for Rusty,I think you may have misheard something.

In "Hate Floats" (Ep. 202)Doctor Venture has the following exchange with The Monarch:

Dr. Venture: God, what is it with this obsession of yours? What did I ever do to you?

The Monarch: How dare you! As if you...

Dr. Venture: Frankly it's beginning to get a little bit old.

The Monarch: Oh, and to belittle my wrath...oh you! Oh, I would love to smack that smug smirk...

If you watch the episode, you can see that the fact that Venture doesn't know sets The Monarch off even more, so there is probably a reason, though TM may be the only one who would think it was important.

"Rusty has even asked the Monarch to his face "what did I ever do to you?" and the Monarch has replied "I don't know I just hate you."

Not quite, when Rusty asked that in Hate Floats, Monarch replied with something along the lines of "Don't pretend you don't know" or "How could you not know", he doesn't claim to himself not know.

reply

I don't recall him every saying that he doesn't know the reason. Whenever someone asks, he just gets so choked up in his rage that he doesn't answer.

reply

I believe he said something along those lines in an episode where he arched his first(?) Guild-sanctioned scientist - pink manatee (Tears of a sea cow).

i think venturion is just a reference to that 80s cartoon the centurions

reply

Remember that Venturon was built by Jonas Venture (hence the name), but went evil after a while. At the end of the episode when the "stripped" Vendata starts to malfunction, he mentions something about finding his wife and the plan going down. I am almost positive that Venturon/Vendata is Major Tom that died in that experimental jet. The things Vendata was saying fit the last things Major Tom said.

When you're in a bad mood, just think about a monkey.

reply

In Season 1 when the Venture Family were trying to find the experimental plane that crashed,Major Tom came back as a zombie.

I liked the theory that Vendata/Councilman 1 was really Ritchie Valens. It sort of matched up at first b/c he was the only Guild member who tried helping Councilmen 8+3 (when they were being attacked by Phantom Limb) and it was never disclosed what happened to Valens after Buddy Holly+the Big Bopper were recruited by Fantomas.

But of course w/ the OSI having info that Venturon/Vendata was created in the 70's shoots this down.

Major Tom's spirit came back, but not his body (it created a body). It was only because the meta-sonic locator turning back time that it happened in the first place.

It wasn't just a spirit that Brock beat on, remember he actually knocked it's head clean off into the ocean.

I like the vendata and monarch connection makes the most sense, but it's almost too simple.

If you compare the faces they look remarkably alike, sharing similar chin & jawlines, as well an almost identicle mouth, sharing the same overbite.

reply

That would probably be true of just about anybody who had been cyborg-ified (well, not everybody would be married, but being married hardly narrows it down), so I don't think there's any way to say that it points to the Monarch's father.

I mean, has The Six Million Dollar Man taught us nothing??

reply

I never watched the Six Million Dollar man.

Eh, I just like theorizing. The show's always throwing curveballs, and I'd like to be ahead of it for once. Of course, I'll probably be wrong in the worst way possible. Ultimately, it probably means nothing.

If it turns out you're right, that would be the worst way to be wrong!
