Did they jump the shark?
or was the ending to this special a brilliant way to shake things up, and take the show in new and wonderful directions? i will miss the old compound, one way or the other.

sharei think doc said in an interview: "we're not jumping the shark, we are *beep* riding the shark!"
huh? I only had one banana!
The phrase "jump the shark" revolves around a general decline in quality of a show and desperation. The Venture Bros could've kept the show at the status quo and people would've been satisfied, but unlike a lot of shows (especially of the animated variety) The Venture Bros has a constantly evolving plot.
All This and Gargantua 2 was a huge episode because it was intended to be last seasons finale. But it was on par with what I hope for

People like to use the term "jumping the shark" to infer that they have the inside scoop and know all about this entertainment business. When not used properly though, it makes one look both stupid and uninformed.
You did not use the term correctly.
i didn't say they jumped the shark, I'm ASKING IF THEY JUMPED THE SHARK. I'm asking if what they have done will lead to a decline in quality in the future, or if this is a brave new direction to take the show in. i do not have an inside scoop, nor did I ever say I did. I'm asking for opinions on the matter, which should be blatantly obvious.
shareFor me, they jumped the shark when they dropped Brock.

I think Season 4 was not as good as the previous seasons, and at that point, you could have made the case that they jumped. But Season 5 was better, funnier, even though it was only half the content. It may be too soon to tell where they're headed, till more episodes are made available.
A post-script: I guess the 8 episodes (9, if you count the Halloween special) are it for Season 5.
The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.
I’ve just started season 4 and I have noticed a distinct nosedive in quality. I can’t put my finger on it exactly except to say it has to do with the writing. Glad to hear it picks up again.

4) No, I disagree that it is time to kill it. It was a couple of
seasons ago that was the time to kill it.
they jumped the shark back in season 3 or 4 and then they turned the shark jumping into an even better show! they broke the idiom!
shareThey are shaking it up a little, but basically it is going to be like any other change that has happened throughout the show.
