Wes Warhammer (spoiler warning)

So is Wes Warhammer supposed to be like Andy Warhol's evil super villain alter-ego.

And is it just me or is The Monarch doing more "evil" stuff now than he did when he was actually arching Dr. Venture? I mean, how many times before the start of this season did he ever kill anyone?!

reply

He's killed people before. He killed that manatee guy, as I recall and some others I can't recall, but he has done it. Also, yes, that was a parody of Warhol.

reply

In early seasons, he used to kill his henchmen for fun.

tonight was great though
awesome bull durham speach

I was gonna suggest that he only kills people when he's not actively arching Dr. Venture (usually under Guild orders), but then I remembered that he killed Rusty's shrink with that Vietnamese Two Step Viper (or whatever it was called). You get the impression that he really wants to kill Dr. Venture, but no matter what, when it comes down to it, something always to prevent him from being able to do so. And the time he tried to torture him, that didn't work out too well either.

Back to Wes Warhammer: it's totally mindboggling to me the things Doc and Jackson come up with. The Doom Factory is obviously a parody of the Council Of Doom (or whatever they were called) on SuperFriends, but they somehow come up with the brilliant idea to make their Lex Luthor parody also an Andy Warhol parody. And I would therefore assume the music we heard in the background during the party was The Velvet Underground (or at least, it was supposed to sound like them). The only thing missing was Andy's Polaroid (the particular model Polaroid actually kept in production for many years after they would have otherwise discontinued it, just because Andy liked it).

Wait a minute: didn't David Bowie play Warhol in a movie about 20 year or so years ago? I seem to recall Kurt Loder make a crack about Bowie "apparently wearing one of Warhol's actual wigs". I saw the movie on TV and there's a scene where some schmuck runs up to Andy and begs him to take his picture. I just can't remember the name of the movie. So maybe this is furthering the Bowie homage.

Bowie plays Warhol in Basquiat (1996).

^ What this man said. Good flick, if depressing.

Idiocracy was supposed to have been a dark comedy. It's quickly becoming a documentary.

Yes.

It was a mash-up of the "Legion of Doom" on the old Superfriends cartoon
+
Andy Worhol's "Factory" and the "Warhol Superstars" who frequented that Factory

So it is literally:
The Superfriends TV show Legion of Doom + Andy Worhol's The Factory = Venture Bros. Doom Factory

And I don't think it's an accident they picked an artist to parody who had been once played by David Bowie in a movie.

Also the Manatee guy was Dr. Douglas Ong aka Dr. Dugong and is the brother of Chester Ong aka Wide Wale.

Loved that reference to "The Doors" and the Warhol scene.

What a terrible loss for skiffle lovers everywhere.
