An abortion
And she would be alive
sharebut she wasn't actually pregnant. She lied and kinda brought it on herself. Not that she deserved what she got.
shareHow would we know she lied about being pregnant?
shareIt's been a long time since I watched this, but I think she lied about it or I wouldn't have written this. I forget why. Irrational female mind games. Presumably to win him over or push him away, since he was married.
shareI get that a character might lie about being pregnant and the mind games they could be playing when doing so. But I just don't see what in the movie is supposed to suggest that is what she was doing. I had just watched it, and didn't get that impression.
shareWell one of the reasons I liked this movie so much was the dark irony, similar to "The Man Who wasn't there" and other Cohen Bros movies or "A Simple Plan". I saw it twice, but again its been 5 years at least.
Guy gets into hot water w/another woman, doesn't want to ruin his "Perfect" rich life and lose his wife. Think he knocks up his mistress, comes up with a stupid plan to kill her and make it look like a robbery, and in the end, turns out she wasn't actually pregnant....so he f'd up his life for nothing it turns out.
Maybe watch the last 20 or 30 min again. I mean the movie makes sense with either outcome, but I think my version (from memory) has a bit more sting and irony to the ending.
Yeah, it can work either way. And her not actually being pregnant would be more stinging if he got caught for a pointless murder. I did like the way the movie made you think the ring bouncing off the railing and not making it into the river was going to be the thing that hangs him, and instead it saves him. But in the end, he didn't f*** up his life. He got away with it, and went on with his devoted wife, kid on the way, and cushy job. And he seems enough of a sociopath to probably be able to put it all behind him and still sleep at night.
Anyway, thanks for the discussion.
She was pregnant.
She tells him that he killed his future son too.
No point for the movie itself to be lying about it too.
