Awful Incidental Music Ruins Excellent Film

I watched this film last night and was extremely impressed. The performances, script, direction, pace - all were excellent, but the MUSIC!! God, it was so corny!! So lame, so irritating. Scene after scene was ruined for me by the intrusive cornball high piano with reverb picking out dainty little tunes with oh-so tastefully muted strings. For God's sake, this film has some very tough scenes - the death of Miss May recalling the death of Ophelia and with just as much tragic impact - why, oh why, did the producers see fit to inflict such bland and meaningless incidental music on it. Also, the source songs chosen to accompany certain scenes seemed to have been picked from the worst strain of anaemic female singer-songwriters. For a Black themed film the music was universally whiter than white (except for a couple of brief scenes featuring some authentic period r'n'b). WHY? It means I can't recommend this film to anyone, and that's a shame.
