Would we be better off if some movies didn't get made?

How about a prohibition on:

1. All WW II movies involving Nazis and the US?
2. We shall overcome movies- such as "Secret Life of Bees"?
3. The comic book hero gene?
4. Anything that has been on TV first?
5. Romantic Comedies told from the female perspective?
6. Anything remotely related to Judd Apatow?
7. Sequels?

What do you think?

I have a better idea, why don't we not limit the subject of any filmmaker, and only demand the film is excellent?

The reason why WWII movies involving Nazis and the U.S. needs to be told, is because some people in the world has become smug and arrogant and forgotten the great sacrifice and contribution the U.S. made to literally save the world. Surely they didn't do this alone, which is why other countries should tell the stories of their contribution, but don't expect U.S. filmmakers to tell their stories.

The reason why "We Shall Overcome" movies need to be made, is because it has only been until recently that such movies could be made without the associated anger and necessity for them to be "message" movies. Now, the story can be told simply for the beauty of the telling.

The reason why the comic book hero gene needs to be told, is because it is always going to be fun and exciting to see someone do something that isn't possible in this (sometimes) boring life.

The reason why movies need to be made about things that were on TV first, is because some of us enjoy reliving the goofiness, if it is done well.

The reason why romantic comedies need to be told from the female perspective, is because when it's told from the male perspective, it's called "porn".

The reason why movies need to be made that are from Judd Apatow, is because many people like that, including me.

The reason why some sequels need to be made, is because some sequels are good... Godfather II anyone? Empire Strikes Back?

That's what I think.

I suppose that's the case with most movies adapted from novels such as "Precious". That movie was awful, so depressing and totally unnecessary.

Yes. Let's deny the war ever happened, pretend that people are doomed, eliminate female perspectives in film, etc. Good idea.

Oh wait, no. It's a really *beep* dumb idea.

Coming from a black woman's perspective... I'm personally tired of the "We shall overcome movies." Reason being, it seems as if that's the only type of film black folk seem to think all black people want to see over and over....
It's time for a change damn it.... and hopefully I can change that. SOON!
