Queen Latifah.
I have only seen three of Queen Latifah's movies in total: The Secret Life of Bees, What Happens in Vegas and Hairspray. My favourite movie of hers out of the three is The Secret Life of Bees, in which she played August Boatwright. When I heard she starred alongside Dakota Fanning in this movie, I was excited. Throughout the movie, she provided Dakota Fanning's character (Lily Owens) with a lot of advice about life and taught her about the beekeeping business. She is so inspiring and I felt so much warmth towards her character. She was my favourite character in the movie and I took an instant like to her. I also enjoyed witnessing the connection between Lily and August because August used to be Lily's mother's nanny and she told Lily details about her mother that she didn't know. Lily was upset to start with because she didn't think her mother loved her, but she did and August showed her that she was wanted by her mother. I know that Lily resented August slightly when she found out August knew her mother, but that only made their relationship stronger. I also think August acted as a role model towards Lily and she was definitely a mother figure throughout the movie. She loved Lily as if she was her daughter. Latifah played this role so well. I loved seeing her and Lily's bond develop more throughout the movie. This is how convincingly Latifah plays a role.
In her films, I've always seen Latifah as a good role model and mother figure. Too many actresses in this industry act as bad role models for society, such as through drug-taking and alcohol consumption. I know Latifah possessed marijuana in the 1990s, but I think that occasion was a one- off. Latifah is not a celebrity that constantly wants attention and I know she has a good heart. I feel as of she represents rights for black people across America. Dark women can still achieve in the same way that white women do. I think Latifah has achieved brilliantly in the movie industry. I love her as an actress.
