Way better than I was expecting.
I originally was thinking, 'god, a perfect movie for dakota fanning to blossom into a critically acclaimed adult actor *rolls eyes*' but once the film started I pretty much ate my hat. She's not good, she's great. Truly one of the gifts of our upcoming age, I can't wait to see what she does in her career.
Anyhow, the movie ... very good. Everyone knows what grief feels like, and this story hits it hard. Grief is even worse when it's experienced by a young pre-teenage girl, so just imagine your worst time of grief but at her age. And no, there's more to it than a rape that you've seen mention of in spoilers.
Really well done, recommended.
