Neither the Greeks nor the French invented democracy. It was the English. In 800 years since Magna Carta we should remember that Westminster is not called the Mother of Parliaments for nothing.

i forgot to say in our school we learned latin (and our language have latin roots) so that mean we have lesson about greek roots like demos for "democratie"; so i think we are very aware of the great greek heritage...

The French didn't invent democtacy, but the French revolution did implement it throughout many parts of the world in the long run. And yes, many of the modern charecteristics of democracy derives from France - left and rightwing-spectra, parliamentarism - so yes in a way Girard is right!
